EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for Linux/UNIX Engineer. This position can be located in Germantown, MD or Denver, CO. We are looking for a collaborator to work within the Corporate IT team supporting Linux servers in a predominately virtual environment.



Responsibilities:

Develop and adhere to standards and procedures and provide day-to-day operational support of development, test, and production server and storage environments
Responsible for project commitments, development of overall project specifications and schedules
Provide customer service by assessing performance problems and resolving issues in the areas of performance tuning, availability, integrity, recoverability and documentation
Participate in an on-call rotation
Provide support for security, network and operational issues
Use the ticketing system to schedule and maintain workflow on approved requests
Patching and upgrading of server operating systems
Provide monthly reports to Internal Audit and respond to ad-hoc requests
Manage user account provisioning and timely termination

Basic Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, information systems , related field or combination of education and experience
10+ years’ experience installing, configuring, and supporting Linux operating systems; Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.x, 8.x and 9.x .
Hands-on experience administering virtual servers in VMware environments including vCenter and ESXi.



Preferred Qualifications:

Red Hat (RHCSA, RHCE)
Cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure certification)
Use of Ansible to query, report on, and manage large numbers of servers
Strong Linux skills and knowledge of protocols including LDAP, SFTP, CUPS, NFS, TCP/IP networks
Experience in scripting in ksh, bash, Perl, Python, PowerShell, etc.
Experience in problem resolution and root cause analysis along with recommending and implementing preventive techniques.
Knowledge of Commvault backup and recovery
Critical thinking/debugging skills from application to network layer
Ability to multitask/context switch in a fast-paced environment
Familiarity with both on-premise and cloud-based (Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services) server virtualization.
Knowledge of OpenShift a plus

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
