About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Engineer 5 with a focus on Fire Protection Engineering to join our team. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work from either our Overland Park, KS or Dallas, TX office. You will be responsible for ensuring that fire protection systems within various facilities—such as power plants, oil and gas processing plants, water treatment plants, and data centers—meet all relevant codes and standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Fire Protection System Evaluation: Review and assess facilities and equipment to determine appropriate fire protection requirements.
  • Code Compliance: Ensure all fire protection systems comply with state and local codes (IBC, IFC, NFPA, etc.).
  • Project Management: Proactively manage and communicate fire protection requirements to internal and external clients for assigned projects.
  • Documentation: Create and review code and hazard analysis documents, fire protection specifications, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and hydraulic calculations.
  • Design Review: Review detailed sprinkler and alarm system drawings/calculations for accuracy and compliance with codes and standards.
  • Regulatory Interaction: Communicate with city and local officials, and apply for city variances when needed.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain and promote a culture that supports quality and safety in all engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with company procedures and policies.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • PE License: Must possess a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 8 years of fire protection engineering experience, preferably in power plants, oil and gas processing facilities, water treatment plants, or data centers.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles, applicable design guides and standards, construction practices, and procurement/contract administration.
  • Communication & Leadership: Strong communication skills with the ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and navigate complex situations. Capable of effectively dealing with ambiguity and maintaining a customer-focused approach.


Education:

  • Degree Requirements: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Certifications: Must have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and either be actively pursuing or already have a PE license in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering.
