Job Details Location: New Port Richey, FL Assignment length: 13 weeks Travel: Yes Qualifications One year of recent experience as a Surgical First Assistant – Technologist Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA or CRNFA) certification Current Surgical Technologist Certification Current BLS (AHA/ARC) Certification ACLS (AHA/ARC) certification (preferred) Other certifications or licenses relevant to the position (preferred) Summary of Responsibilities The Surgical First Assistant provides advanced care by assisting surgeons throughout procedures. Responsibilities include pre‑operative patient assessment, intra‑operative assistance, and post‑operative care management, while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety. Essential Work Functions Assist the surgeon during operative procedures by providing exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions. Position, prep, and drape patients according to protocols. Anticipate needs and provide appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment. Perform wound closure, dressing application, and other technical tasks as directed. Maintain sterile techniques and address breaches promptly. Monitor patient condition intra‑operatively, report changes, respond to emergent situations. Document patient information within scope of practice. Participate in the Universal Protocol and timeout procedures. Ensure availability and functionality of surgical machines and instruments. Collaborate with the surgical team for efficient workflow and safety. Stay informed on advancements in surgical techniques, robotics, and peri‑operative care through continuing education. Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards. Required Essential Skills Critical thinking and excellent communication skills. Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English. PC skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Physical ability to remain stationary, move equipment (50–100 lbs), push, pull, bend. Interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse personnel. Technical skills for fine manipulation and use of department equipment. Ability to manage pressure, meet deadlines, and cope with irregular activity schedules.
