Job Summary
Pipefitters must be able to use a torch and silver braze copper pipes or tubes. Pipefitters install, assemble, fabricate, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot pipe carrying fuel, chemicals, water, steam, and air in heating, cooling, lubricating, and various other process piping systems. Maintain a clean work environment while removing debris and inspecting the pipes. You must be able to multi-task and pay great attention to detail.
Responsibilities
Cleaning, assembling, and applying braze alloy to pipes with a torch.
Cut or drill holes in walls or floors to accommodate the passage of pipes.
Measure, cut, thread, and assemble new pipe, placing the assembled pipe in hangers or other supports.
Mount brackets and hangers on walls and ceilings to hold pipes and set sleeves or inserts to provide support for pipes.
Requisition tools and equipment, select the type and size of pipe, and collect and transport materials and equipment to the work site.
Fit in valves, couplings, or assemblies to tanks, pumps, or systems, using hand tools.
Be able to layout, assembly, and install piping for air, ammonia, gas, drain and water systems.
Excavate and grade ditches and lay and join pipes for water and sewer service.
Cut pipe and lift to fitters.
Disassemble and remove damaged or worn pipes.
Clean work area, and machines, using solvent and rags.
Perform rough-ins, repair and replace fixtures and water heaters, and locate, repair, or remove leaking or broken pipes.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or the equivalent (for example, GED)
Post-Secondary Certificate awarded for training completed after high school (for example, in agriculture or natural resources, engineering technologies, construction trades, mechanic and repair technologies, or precision production.
Knowledge of silver brazing and must be able to pass a silver braze pipe test.
Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of buildings.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customers and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Clean background with the ability to receive clearance to work in shipyards.
Ability to lift and carry 50+ pounds in a physical environment.
Ability to make repetitive movements.
Must be very safety conscious and dedicated to doing a good job.
Excellent hand-eye coordination
Good level of physical fitness
Good written and verbal communication skills.
