Position Overview

The Senior Biologist will be responsible for undertaking multiple project responsibilities, including field direction and project management, by applying a full suite of technical skills in natural resource management. Senior Biologists are expected to have established client relationships and successfully win small and large projects for the natural resources group. Senior Biologists effectively manage multiple large projects from start to completion, understanding the needs of the client and creating the project teams needed to complete the required work on time, within budget, and with quality.


The Senior Biologist requires knowledge of environmental regulations such as the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Endangered Species Act, and CWA. The Senior Biologist is knowledgeable in data collection, analysis, and interpretation of scientific information. Duties for this position typically include performance and oversight of teams completing field surveys including habitat assessments for species of concern, complex wetland delineations, or vegetation sampling. Office duties include development of large and complex regulatory documents, such as biological assessments, individual permits, and NEPA documents, and management of project teams and junior staff. A Senior Biologist has extensive experience in regulatory agency coordination with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and other federal agencies.


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in biology, botany, environmental science, ecological restoration, natural resource planning, or a similar discipline.
  • 10+ years of applicable experience, with preference for Colorado-based experience.

Performance Expectations and Responsibilities

Senior Biologists are expected to have the knowledge and experience to effectively carry out their responsibilities with limited reliance on senior leadership. This position is based in an ERO designated office with an option for a hybrid work schedule based on employee performance, business needs, fieldwork, and client needs.


Senior Biologists are expected to interact with clients; attend in-person meetings, marketing events and conferences; and prepare scopes and proposal documents. Overnight travel may be required. This position will include providing support and assistance with team capacity planning, mentoring to junior staff, and managing a variety of projects.


ERO offers a very competitive compensation package that includes:

  • Salary position with a pay range of $85,000 to $100,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
  • 10 hours/month paid vacation accrual (separate sick leave bank).
  • 11 paid holidays that include office closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
  • ERO pays, on average, 80 percent of health, dental, vision, and other insurance packages.
