Description
Introduction:
Under the supervision of the Clinical Director, the Respite Care Assistant is responsible for providing basic patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living and care of the environment.
This Full-Time position is for three 12-hour Night-Shifts per week, from 7:00pm to 7:30 am.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates a commitment to the mission and values of the facility to preserve the dignity and confidentiality of every person through courteous behavior and respectful communications with all patients, Kairos members, co-workers and visitors.
- Measures and records temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, height, and weight as ordered.
- Performs admission procedures as directed: Welcomes and orients new patients to nursing unit. Completes admission form.
- Observes universal precautions in all patient care activities.
- Assists patients in maintaining a clean environment. Supervises patients in making their beds, storing their clothes, keeping bedside stand neat. Provides clean clothing and bed linens for patients. Assists individuals too debilitated to maintain their own environment.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living as needed (shower, shave, dress in clean clothing, etc.).
- Assist patients in practicing their at-home exercises as prescribed by physical therapy.
- Assists patients with basic treatments, such as diabetic foot care, applying ACE wraps, and applying topical treatments.
- Assists patients to attend scheduled meetings and meals.
- Prepares patients for outside appointments. Checks to be sure patient is showered and dressed appropriately. Ensures that patients are available on second floor at time of departure.
- Accompanies patients to medical appointments as requested.
- Provides coverage at the desk on the second floor as needed during meals and whenever requested by the Charge Nurse.
- Completes daily end-of-shift cleaning assignment: Laundry Room / Treatment Room / Patient Rooms (as assigned) / Showers.
- Performs discharge procedure as directed: Communicates with nurse and patient as to time of discharge. Assists patient who is leaving to pack their belongings.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Job Qualifications:
Education:
•High School Graduate or GED.
Experience:
•Experience working with individuals who are experiencing homelessness preferred.
•1 year experience with direct patient care preferred (including, but not limited to, CNA/PCT/HHA experience)
Skills:
•Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
Grant Funded Positions:
Christ House receives funding from a variety of sources. Certain staff positions within nursing, case management, custodial, maintenance, reception, and food services are funded by grants that may require fingerprinting, criminal history checks, vaccinations, trainings, drug testing, and/or background checks. You will be notified if your position falls under this category.
Workplace and Safety Practices:
- Understand and support safety and infection control policies and procedures for a medical facility, business, food service area and housing program.
- Demonstrate an understanding of role in emergency situations, such as fire drills.
- Perform job safely.
- Must be able to physically sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to bend, lift, and carry items up to 50lbs from one location to another.
- Must have visual acuity and the ability to sustain long periods of computer usage.
- May sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk and/or may use the telephone for long periods of time.
- Must be able to work any time of the day, independently with minimal supervision, sound judgement, and be detail oriented, alert and self-motivated.
- Must be able to effectively manage difficult situations, staff and customers.
- Attend staff retreats, in-services, and trainings as appropriate.
- Willing to work flexible schedule including some weekend, evenings and holidays in recognition of Christ House's 24/7 operation.
- Report to work on time.
Salary Description
Starting at $21/hr (+$2 for night shift)
