Unit Coordinator | Orthopedic | MGH Mass General Brigham invites applications for the Unit Coordinator role in our Orthopedic department. The position is based at 55 Fruit Street, New England’s #1 Medical Center. Job Summary Provide administrative support to unit-based clinicians and staff in an inpatient Orthopedic unit. Act as the liaison between patients, visitors, and clinical teams, ensuring efficient patient flow and communications about admissions, discharges, and transfers. Responsibilities Manage priorities, complete tasks on time, and handle confidential patient information. Coordinate day‑to‑day patient flow in partnership with nursing staff. Deliver outstanding customer service to patients, families, visitors, and coworkers. Assist in general administration of the floor or unit. Greet and interact with patients, families, visitors and coworkers professionally, both in person and via communication tools. Receive, prioritize, and manage information at the central nursing station and throughout the unit. Schedule consultations, tests, procedures, and patient transport to other departments. Accurately enter admission, discharge, and transfer information into the electronic medical record. Contact ancillary service departments to obtain equipment, services, and supplies; track status and location; and follow designated processes for repairs. Assist the manager with payroll duties or staff scheduling, or supervise unit secretaries, as assigned. Understand and report patient health concerns to nursing staff. Comply with all policies and standards. Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required). Associate Degree (Preferred). Licenses / Certifications Unit Coordinator Certification – National Association of Health Unit Coordinators, Inc. (Preferred). Work Experience Administrative support experience 2–3 years (Required). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency with office procedures and equipment: filing, copying, scanning, printing, faxing. Proficiency in MS Office. Proofreading and editing written documents. Using a phone system. Managing one’s own time and the time of others. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal, written, and oral skills. Use of standard office equipment. Familiarity with medical terminology.
