Staff Engineer – GEICO Position Summary GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low‑maintenance, zero‑downtime platforms and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, while co‑creating a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement. Position Responsibilities Focus on multiple areas and provide leadership to engineering teams. Own product solutions across the entire life cycle. Influence and build vision with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems for enterprise‑class business applications. Accountable for the quality, usability, and performance of solutions. Lead design sessions and code reviews to elevate engineering quality across the organization. Utilize programming languages such as .NET, Python, SQL, and NoSQL databases, and container orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, plus a variety of Azure tools and services. Mentor junior team members to help them realize their full potential. Consistently share best practices and improve processes within and across teams. Qualifications Fluency and specialization with at least two modern languages such as Java, C++, Python, or C# including object‑oriented design. Experience building products using micro‑services‑oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs. Experience designing architecture and design patterns for new and current systems. Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code. Fluency in DevOps concepts, cloud architecture, and Azure DevOps operational framework. Experience leveraging PowerShell scripting. Experience with operational portals such as Azure Portal. Experience with application monitoring tools and performance assessments. Experience with datacenter structure, capabilities, and offerings, including Azure platform and native services. Experience with security protocols and products: Active Directory, Windows Authentication, SAML, OAuth. Experience with Azure Network (subscription, security zoning, etc.). Experience with Genesis. In‑depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms. Strong problem‑solving ability. Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, startup‑like environment. Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real‑time communication). Experience 6+ years of professional software development experience within a Java framework (J2EE, web containers, and Java). 4+ years of experience in open‑source frameworks. 3+ years of experience with architecture and design. 3+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service. Education Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent education or work experience.
