Senior Embedded Software Engineer – Aerospace & Défense Location: Irvine, CA Job Type: Full-Time, Right to Hire Clearance Requirement: Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government/DOD-issued security clearance. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in developing advanced embedded software for aerospace and defence systems. This role involves designing and implementing software for complex electronics, including ammunition handling systems, thermal management systems, aeromechanical systems, turbo machinery, and other specialized hardware. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in embedded C/C++, real‑time operating systems, hardware interfaces, and safety‑critical software development. Key Responsibilities Analyse, allocate, and derive software requirements while maintaining traceability. Conduct trade studies, risk analysis, and feasibility assessments. Architect and design software modules and embedded systems. Implement, test, and verify embedded software modules. Develop algorithms, perform modelling and simulation using MATLAB. Ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory standards. Communicate technical concepts clearly through presentations and documentation. Participate in integration and testing of systems both in‑house and in the field. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. 5–7 years of experience in embedded software development. Proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems. Experience with hardware interface development, including board and OS bring‑up, and device driver development. Knowledge of peripheral interfaces such as UART, USB, Ethernet, I2C, SPI, RS232, RS422. Familiarity with communication protocols including CAN, TCP/IP, and UDP. Hands‑on experience with test and measurement equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyser, digital multimeter). Experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) models (Waterfall, V, Iterative, Incremental, Spiral, Agile) and application lifecycle management tools. Familiarity with safety‑critical processes, RTOS, and software architecture standards (RTCA/DO‑178, MOSA, FACE) is a plus. Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for a U.S. Government/DOD‑issued security clearance. Preferred Skills Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team. Excellent communication and documentation abilities.
