Position Summary The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) plays a vital leadership role in supporting the Director of Nursing (DON) and overseeing the daily operations of the nursing department. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality resident care, compliance with regulatory standards, and continuous staff development within a positive work culture. Responsibilities Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, and directing nursing services. Supervise and mentor nursing staff to ensure competent and compassionate care. Monitor staff scheduling, coverage, and daily workflow across units. Participate in developing and implementing nursing policies, procedures, and quality initiatives. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as facility standards. Assist in managing departmental budgets, supplies, and staffing costs. Conduct clinical rounds to monitor resident care, documentation, and safety practices. Support training, performance evaluations, and employee development programs. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote continuity of care. Serve as acting DON in the absence of the Director of Nursing. Qualifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Rhode Island. Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s preferred. Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Knowledge of long‑term care regulations and quality improvement standards. Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office Suite. Work Environment This position operates within a skilled nursing facility setting and may require flexible scheduling, including evenings or weekends as needed. The ADON must be able to move freely throughout the facility and participate in emergency or on‑call coverage as required.
