Director of Construction & Development – California Our client, a fast-growing industry leader in marina operations, is seeking an exceptional Director of Construction & Development to lead capital development projects across California, with primary focus on the San Diego region and supporting the San Francisco Bay Area. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on large-scale waterfront development projects with the world’s largest marina operator. The Opportunity As Director of Construction & Development, you’ll serve as the senior project leader for capital development initiatives across California. This strategic role requires someone who can operate at both the executive and hands‑on project management level, interfacing directly with regional leadership while maintaining oversight of complex, multi‑site construction programs. You’ll report to the Vice President of Construction & Development and work closely with Regional Vice Presidents and General Managers to identify, develop, and execute capital improvement projects that drive property and company growth. The largest and most exciting projects are concentrated in Southern California, making this an ideal role for someone ready to lead transformational waterfront development. What You’ll Do Strategic Leadership Develop and oversee annual maintenance and growth capital programs across California properties Identify growth opportunities and build business cases for capital procurement Facilitate deployment of capital funds across the region to maximize ROI Provide strategic guidance to the Construction & Development team Project Execution Lead collaboration with Regional Vice Presidents, General Managers, engineers, architects, and contractors Oversee third‑party consultants, engineers, architects, and trade subcontractors Develop project agreements and contracts with support from internal teams and legal Facilitate and manage entitlements processes Supervise construction efforts ensuring adherence to design, budget, and schedule Provide technical expertise including interpretation of drawings and recommending construction methods Operational Excellence Ensure consistent execution of priorities and objectives across all California properties Build and maintain relationships with contracting vendors Solve complex, multi‑faceted problems in collaboration with project stakeholders Ensure on‑site personnel comply with safety programs, procedures, and work rules Provide regular status communications to executive leadership What You Bring Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field, or equivalent work experience Minimum 10+ years of construction project management experience, preferably in civil or marine environments Marina, waterfront, or marine construction experience highly preferred Proven track record managing large‑scale capital projects ($5M+) Experience leading teams and managing multiple concurrent projects Willingness and ability to travel regularly between San Diego and San Francisco Bay Area Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed Technical Skills Exceptional business acumen and analytical decision‑making ability Strong organizational skills to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously Ability to work independently, multi‑task, and prioritize effectively Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and project management software Ability to work a flexible, full‑time schedule Leadership Qualities Strategic thinker with bias toward action Exceptional communication skills across all organizational levels Ability to build high‑performing teams and develop talent Strong relationship builder, both internally and externally Track record of coaching teams through change with positivity Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth Acts with integrity and welcomes feedback Why This Role This is a rare opportunity to join the world’s largest marina operator as a senior leader during a period of significant growth and expansion.
