**Certifications:** American Heart Association - Basic Life Support (BLS); Certification in Surgical Technology preferred

**Must-Have:** High School Diploma or GED; Understanding that the workplace is a Drug-Free Campus and candidates must produce a negative drug screen for all panels

**Job Description:**

- Provide care for patients across the lifespan, appropriate to the age of the person, during the intra-operative phase of surgery.
- Perform duties of a scrub person adhering to a high standard of patient safety principles, aseptic, and sterile techniques.
- Scrub for procedures according to established aseptic technique guidelines, service line-specific.
- Organize and prepare the operating room prior to surgery, collecting all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment.
- Set up back table and mayo stand, and maintain a sterile environment.
- Assist surgeons intra-operatively, including draping, scrubbing, passing instruments, sponges, sutures, and other supplies and equipment.
- Anticipate and respond to the needs of surgeons during the surgery.
- Assist RN with circulating duties as needed.
- Manage surgical specimens per established policies.
- Develop competency in using medical equipment and instruments used in the operating room.
- Communicate effectively with surgical team members.
- Function as a clinical resource person for various department personnel and other caregivers.
- Assist in identifying and resolving clinical and operational problems.
- Orient new staff and provide guidance to other surgical technologists, nurses, residents, and medical students.
- Participate in call rotation 1-2 times per week and weekend rotation.
