**License:** Certification/Registration required
**Certifications:** ASCP, NCA, NEW, or equivalent registry
**Must-Have:** Phlebotomy experience, excellent verbal and written English skills, computer proficiency. Bilingual ability is a plus.

**Job Description:**

- Coordinate testing procedures and clinical data with medical staff for the Laboratory Department.
- Perform EKGs, phlebotomies, therapeutic phlebotomies, arterial and capillary collections for specimen procurement.
- Demonstrate integration of current scientific knowledge with technical competency in the Laboratory department.
- Participate in the implementation of all Safety/Chemical hygiene plans, Infectious/Exposure control plans, Electrical Safety, Disaster plans, Fire plans, and Compliance and Ethics policies.
- Clarify physician orders and answer questions about orders, specimens, and results.
- Maintain standards in routine, timed, and STAT testing, demonstrating the ability to set priorities.
- Share weekend and daily on-call hours with other staff technologists.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new employees.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, supporting safety in the workplace.
- Prepare and monitor quality control charts, instrument function checks, and instrument maintenance protocols.
- Use QA tools to recognize and report any hazards.
- Demonstrate competency in the knowledge of patient care in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces health care errors.
- Respond to operational needs of others with good judgment.
- Follow proper procedures when laboratory equipment is not functioning properly and ensure continuity of care through follow-up on incomplete procedures.
- Correlate results with diagnosis and ensure compatibility; question any incompatible results.
- Demonstrate broad knowledge of all laboratory departments and ensure preventive maintenance is documented.
- Demonstrate knowledge of proper identification and reporting of health care errors.
- Protect patients in the event of a health care error and assist in error resolution as appropriate.

**Additional Requirements:**

- Call up to 3 nights a week, one weekend per month.
- Possibility of transitioning to a permanent position.
- Holiday coverage required.
- Experience with Cerner EMR.
