Amherst, United States Amherst School District Full time

Summary
The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) supports and implements behavior plans created by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies that honor the unique strengths and differences of every student. This position emphasizes neurodiversity, understanding that brain variations are natural and not deficits to be fixed. The RBT fosters skill development in communication, social interaction, and problem-solving for students in special education in a respectful, positive, and individualized way.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Promote safe and socially acceptable behaviors to support communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills development.
Gradually reduce prompts to encourage independent and successful responses.
Increase the occurrence of appropriate behaviors through positive reinforcement (desired items, attention, or removal of aversive stimuli).
Collect and document behavior data using A-B-C, frequency, duration, latency, inter-response time, event recording, and interval-based recording methods.
Adhere to treatment plans and interventions, seeking appropriate consultation when necessary.
Collaborate effectively with team members to implement programming with minimal disruption.
Educate involved parties about the role of ABA-based interventions and the responsibilities of the RBT, ensuring clear role boundaries.
Participate in reassessment and training/consultation as appropriate.
Reinforce previously taught skills in one-on-one or small group settings.
Maintain open communication with liaisons regarding student progress.
Document academic and behavioral progress accurately and thoroughly.
Support students in general education settings and community/job site environments, modifying instruction as necessary.
Ensure student safety when using adaptive equipment.
Assist with self-help skills (clothing, feeding, toileting).
Participate in progress meetings and provide input for progress reports, informing staff of program updates.
Complete required documentation such as parent communication logs and district forms.
Engage in ongoing professional development, including restraint training, CPR/First Aid certification, and staff meetings.
Adapt to changes in daily schedules with flexibility.
Assist with curriculum development and modifications, including augmentative communication devices, task analysis, and discrete trial materials.
Maintain student program books, document changes, and conduct reinforcement assessments.
Implement instructional and behavioral programs as designed by the BCBA in both pull-out and inclusion settings, including discrete trial training, social stories, and social skills training.
Model ABA techniques and provide support to other staff, as requested by the BCBA.
Conduct data collection at all stages of skill acquisition.
Organize and maintain student-specific materials and reinforcers in an orderly manner.
Perform other duties as designated by Lead Teacher, BCBA, Building Principal, Assistant Principal, Special Education Coordinator, or Director of Student Services.
Required Qualifications
CPR/First Aid Certification
Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) Certification
Safety Care Certification
This neuro affirming approach to ABA honors the diversity of human minds and supports each student in a respectful, inclusive, and effective way.
