Job Summary:

Responsible for the coordination of Nutrition Services including Clinical Nutrition, Nutrition Support and the Metabolic Lab. Provides leadership on specialized nutrition intervention practices for hospitalized patients. Serves on the Nutrition Committee and other interdepartmental committees. Provides specialized medical nutrition therapy as a member of the Nutrition Support Team. Directs activities and performance of Clinical and Nutrition Support Registered Dietitians. . Completes nutritional assessments, designs, recommends, and implements specialized enteral and parenteral nutrition regimens for patients being followed by the Nutrition Support Team. Monitors and evaluates response to medical nutrition therapy. Collaborates with other healthcare team members in planning post-hospital care. Conducts NST rounds to review patient nutrition management. Interprets and documents Indirect Calorimetry measurement results. Educates patients and caregivers regarding home enteral and parenteral nutrition administration and management. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Completes accurate and timely documentation of assessment and care plans in EMR. Ensures an adequate and cost-effective enteral product formulary. Main preceptor for Dietetic Interns for clinical rotations.

  • Demonstrate the ability to mentor the USM interns for successful completion of their Clinical/NST rotation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to evaluate and revise the enteral nutrition formulary yearly to ensure optimal patient care is provided in a cost effective manner.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare work schedules for employees.
  • Demonstrate the ability to counsel employees when appropriate and complete proper documentation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to train staff on job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to use department software (Computrition and EPIC).
  • Demonstrate the ability to assess patient's nutritional status.
  • Demonstrate effective critical thinking skills and judgement capabilities.
  • Demonstrate effective writing and speaking skills.
  • Demonstrate active listening skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete consults / assignments by the deadline.
  • Demonstrate willingness to assist in other area as needed.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills:

Bachelor degree from an accredited school in nutrition, dietetics, or human nutrition required. Master

degree preferred, but not required. Registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the

Academy of Nutrition And Dietetics.

Work Experience:

Three years as a Nutrition Support Dietitian preferred.

ability to process large volumes of detailed patient information, assess, develop, and implement

patient-specific nutrition care plans in a timely manner; ability to communicate effectively with

patients, physicians, other healthcare personnel, administration, and community as needed;

work within time constraints and associated stress/pressure.
