The CUNY School of Medicine (CUNY SoM) at The City College of New York (CCNY) located in the heart of Harlem, is the only medical school in the City University of New York system and the only public medical school in Manhattan. Building upon 50 years of success as the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education, we transitioned to the CUNY School of Medicine in 2017. The Department of Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) is seeking a Research Assistant who wants to participate in exciting research projects in the area of organ physiology. This position will be responsible for aiding the principal investigator, research of the principal investigator focuses primarily on animal models of ischemic neurological injury and vascular research. The laboratory utilizes in vivo stroke models, in vitro vascular methods, cell culture and molecular biology techniques.

In addition to the CUNY Title overview, duties will include but are not limited to:

+ Under the supervision of the principal investigator, conduct various IACUC-approved laboratory animal procedures and techniques for research projects in the area(s) of experimental ischemic stroke and in vitro vascular research. Handling rat/mice and surgical prep, middle cerebral artery occlusion artery/vein cannulations, injections/infusions, blood collection, euthanasia, basic neurological/behavioral measures, necropsy and tissue collection are expected.

+ Maintain accurate animal census and surgical/recovery records.

+ Perform various standard experimental assays, including protein/RNA expression using a variety of biological systems, protein purification and characterization, quantitative real-time PCR, western blot, flow cytometry, and ELISA.

+ Work in sterile conditions to conduct cell culture experiments and start/maintain the growth of cell lines, collect and analyze generated data.

+ Prepare sterile buffers and media for experiments. Label tubes for specimen collection and update/maintain sample inventories.

+ Support regulatory compliance efforts as instructed by the Principal Investigator in accordance with IACUC, radiation safety and IRB standards.

+ Maintain logs for various aspects of maintaining the surgical suite (autoclave/guillotine logs, ventilator inspections, expiration dates of surgical supplies and drugs, pipette, and balance calibrations, etc.).

+ Keep detailed records of all lab-based activities in a laboratory notebook.

+ Provide progress updates and lab related issues to the Principal Investigator and other members of the lab in weekly lab meetings.

+ Assist in organization and upkeep of laboratory supplies, workspace, and equipment in line with standards dictated by the Principal Investigator.

+ Ensure proper sterilization of supplies and lab instruments by autoclave.

+ Work independently and collaboratively, training of personnel on experimental assays, procedures, and projects.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the research being performed.

**OTHER QUALIFICATIONS**

**Preferred Qualifications**

+ Minimum one year of in vivo laboratory experience beyond their undergraduate degree.

+ Experience in ischemic stroke animal models and animal surgery.

+ Experience in middle cerebral artery occlusion and re perfusion MCAO models in mice.

+ Experience in in vitro myography.

**COMPENSATION**

Salary: $54,675
