This position is responsible for daily cleaning and maintenance duties of county buildings. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace.

This position is part-time up to 29 hours per week. NO BENEFITS

MAJOR DUTIES
  • Maintains cleanliness and order at historic courthouse.
  • Cleans and sanitizes restrooms; unclog as needed.
  • Sweeps, mops, and vacuums floors.
  • Cleans windows, blinds, and doors.
  • Disposes of trash.
  • Replaces supplies as needed.
  • Maintains inventory; retrieves supplies from new courthouse.
  • Gathers materials for recycling.
  • Communicates with the general public and sub-contractors.
  • Maintains and adjusts building temperature as needed.
  • Cleans various buildings as needed and requested such as library, 4-H, and recreation department.
  • Locks and unlocks the building as needed.
  • Maintains proper storage and use of various cleaning chemicals.
  • Receives and reviews instructions from head supervisor; maintains in-house employee requests.
  • Moves furniture and cabinets as needed.
  • Oversees Project Adam crew and community service workers.
  • Cleans up grounds as needed; maintains outside grounds.
  • Assures safety signs are properly displayed.
  • Performs related duties.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
  • Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance materials.
  • Knowledge of building facilities.
  • Knowledge of departmental methods, procedures, and policies.
  • Knowledge of in-house HVAC program and inventory control.
  • Skill in using custodial and maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Skill in interpersonal communication.
  • Skill in basic computer operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • No prior experience necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, utilizes a sense of smell, and operates different machines.
  • The work is typically performed in an office, library, computer room, stockroom, or warehouse. The employee is exposed to dust, dirt, grease, and contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals. The work is performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather and requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, and gloves.
