How You Will Contribute

In this position, you will be working with our Corporate Finance team.

The Senior Project Accountant is a key contributor with a highly visible role among all key constituents, reporting to the Assistant Controller. The Project Accountant plays a crucial role in Finance managing the financial aspects of projects within our organization. They will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight and tracking of client projects within our projects reporting tool (Kantata), as well as our external reporting system (Intacct). The Senior Project Accountant will monitor and drive accurate monthly financial reporting of project balances, including balance sheet reconciliations for both Unbilled and Deferred Revenue monthly. Additionally, they will perform cost analyses, ensure compliance with all financial reporting regulations, and collaborate closely with project managers to develop sound financial procedures.

Red Nucleus' recent and rapid growth will require that the new Senior Project Accountant role be flexible, innovative, and able to implement new processes, controls, and analytical tools quickly and effectively. The incumbent will need to work well cross-departmentally, both at the business leadership and client services/staff levels. The successful candidate will possess a demonstrated record of implementing and sustaining operational excellence by leveraging people, processes, technology, and structure in a high-growth environment.

Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee Project Accounting Process: The Project Accountant ensures accuracy between systems with revenue recognition, expense tracking, client invoicing while maintaining compliance with company policies and legal standards
  • Project Systems Management: manage/monitor day to day project systems, software, and technology to streamline operations and enhance efficiency
  • Internal Controls and Procedures: Develop and enforce internal controls and procedures to prevent errors in project accounting and financial reporting
  • Collaboration: Coordinate with project managers and accounting/finance departments to resolve any project issues, disputes, and/or discrepancies relating to revenue, expense tracking, invoicing, or financial reporting
  • Data Analysis: Analyze all project data and reports to identify cost vs budget trends, revenue accuracy, shared-project tracking across divisions, intercompany alignment, and balance sheet financial reporting accuracy
  • Manage the monthly client-project reporting files in conjunction with the Pune, India finance team to ensure accurate tracking of monthly activities regarding revenue and billing, while reconciling the balance sheet accounts for Unbilled and Deferred revenue
  • Develop and establish global weekly/bi-weekly cadence of project review by division to ensure timely updating of project information for monthly closing
  • Trend analysis of balance sheet accounts relating to project activities - Accounts Receivable, Unbilled Revenue and Deferred Revenue
  • Lead team discussions and improvement huddles around accuracy and efficiency of project reporting and integration between systems by identifying issues and driving to resolution
  • Assist with the year-end audit process and quarterly reviews as it relates to project reporting, balance sheet reconciliations and timely invoicing/expense tracking
  • Continuous Improvement- Continually assess systems and procedures for improvement opportunities, offering recommendations and implementing new processes or changes to systems in support of project accounting

About You
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA and/or advanced degree preferred but not required
  • Minimum 5+ years' overall combined general accounting, project accounting and finance experience in progressive roles, including some corporate experience
  • Thorough knowledge of ERP system structures, project accounting procedures and general corporate finance to manage day to day client projects
  • Experience designing, building, implementing, and managing sound project-tracking processes and system improvements to drive efficiencies and improved data quality
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, client-focused environment
  • Demonstrates a strong presence as a financial partner to our project teams/leaders, with excellent verbal and written communication skills to properly manage the project accounting process
  • Commitment to deadlines and a quick turnaround for ongoing core deliverables and ad-hoc requests from both Finance and Project Manager leadership
  • A working knowledge of Kantata (projects tool), Intacct (ERP system), and related database tools are a plus
  • Strong customer relationship skills - both internal project teams and finance leadership
  • Demonstrated track record of establishing and maintaining a strong internal controls environment around project accounting
  • Confirmed experience in implementing strong processes and value-added technology to facilitate timely and accurate project reporting and tracking
  • Ability to guide business decisions, gain general consensus, and implement new procedures as needed
  • Highly organized - effectively tracks and monitors progress of project accounting, required reporting and reconciliations, ad-hoc requests, and can deliver within required timelines
