Registered Behavior Technician

Location: Mercer County/Hamilton, School Based, Full Time

Definition: The Registered Behavior Technician is responsible for the implementation of the Individual Support Plan and must have Bachelor's degree in psychology, special education, guidance and counseling, social work or a related field and at least one year of supervised experience in implementing positive behavior support plans and teaching ADL/Instrumental skills for individuals who have intellectual/developmental disabilities. The Behavior Technician II is also responsible for implementing the goals and objectives outlined in the Individual Support Plan and/or the programming created by the BCBA for insurance funded cases or districts. The Behavior Technician II will ensure that all home care is provided in a caring and respectful way in keeping with all relevant policies and procedures and division standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree in psychology, special education, or related field of study is preferred.
  • Experience working with children ages 0-18 providing in a classroom or 1:1 setting; experience implementing the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis; teaching activities of daily living (ADLS)
  • One year of supervised experience implementing Individual Habilitation Plans, Essential Life Plans, Individual Support Plans or Behavioral Support Plans.

Knowledge of:
  • Current and best practice behavioral intervention strategies
  • Learning theories and instructional methods
  • Ethics, laws, and regulations of acceptable behavior interventions
  • Developmental processes of children, adolescents, and adults
  • Intellectual and behavioral disabilities, outside of Autism

Skills and Abilities to:
  • Ability to accept constructive feedback and develop knowledge and skill sets accordingly.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with clients, co-workers, supervisors, and community members.
  • Ability to adhere to organizational policies and procedures and abide by code of ethics as indicated by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board
  • Commitment to maintain client confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA laws.
  • Commitment to ongoing training and development as it relates to clinical skills, professional development, ethics, and technology, and training in order to perform job responsibilities to required standard.
  • Ability to interpret and implement clinical protocols.
  • Must maintain a professional appearance with regard to clothing, grooming, hair, and make-up.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to lift and carry clients with adaptive equipment.
  • Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan in the course of working with children with challenging behavior.
  • Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection.
  • Must be physically present at the assigned job location, which may include home, school, and community placements.
  • Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel between different job sites.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with driving privileges in good standing.

Job Duties:
  • Provide individualized in home and community supports to youth with intellectual/developmental disabilities struggling with behavior, social, and activities of daily living difficulties.
  • Provide general custodial care including feeding, personal hygiene and other primary care needs.
  • Implement programs created by supervisor and take data on all programs, entering the data in the online data management system.
  • Progress notes for each session visit.
  • Manage any unanticipated events or unstable situations
  • Ensure the implementation of the Individual Support Plan.
  • Ensure that care is provided according to all relevant policies, procedures and Regulations.
  • Make recommendations for changes and improvements to the program, as required
  • Discuss any concerns with the supervisor
  • Provide information to other health care professionals, as required
  • Consult with family members and other supports to ensure that care is on-going and that all youth's needs are identified and met
  • Encourage youth and families to be involved in care, if appropriate
  • Establish and maintain current, accurate, confidential files for each client
  • Comply with the agency's attendance policy and report to work regularly.
  • Adhering to safety and health practices by complying with workplace safety and health policies and procedures.
  • Comply with the agency's Corporate Compliance and Ethical Conduct policies. • Perform other related duties as required
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Assist BCBA with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments.
  • Assist BCBA in preparing client materials as instructed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment.
  • Collaborate with treatment team including client, parents and caregivers, outside professionals, BCBAs, and co-workers.
  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings.
  • Attend staff meetings as assigned
  • Maintain current CPR, First Aid, and Safety Care certifications
  • Other job duties as assigned by Clinical Director or Clinical Supervisor
