SEASONAL - Maintenance Worker - Old Colorado City Special Improvement Maintenance District (SIMD) (PT Maintenance Support)
Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services seeks a Parks Maintenance Worker to maintain medians, rights-of-way, and parks in Old Colorado City.
This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).
Anticipated dates of employment are from April through August. Normal hours worked will be 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and Friday 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. (some weekends and holidays). Total hours worked not to exceed 1,500 annually.
Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:
* Trim weeds, mulch, prune, hedge, aerate, and seed turf and bed areas
* Plant and water annuals, perennials, and shrubs
* Pick up trash, paint, and remove graffiti
* Maintain and repair irrigation systems
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
* Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment such as trucks, string trimmers and push mowers
Successful candidates will have
* Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
Ideal candidates will also have
* Experience working with irrigation systems and landscape/greenhouse maintenance
Additional Information
Physical Demands: The ability to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 60 pounds occasionally is also required.
Environmental Conditions: This position requires working outside in all weather conditions and along high traffic areas.
The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
