Choice + is Northside Hospital's clinical career program that offers the flexibility of an agency with the growth and advantages of working for Northside.The Respiratory Therapist for Northside Hospital's Choice+ Local Program regularly performs respiratory care for patients in adult, neonatal care, and/or outpatient CPAP centers. Employees may perform ECG, EEG, pulmonary function testing, & bronchoscopy, and any other testing as deemed within the scope of practice by national standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Assesses the patient's respiratory status by incorporating relevant clinical information, including vital signs, chest X-rays, and ABG values.
* Sets up and monitors mechanical ventilators and performs associated critical care duties such as airway management and tracheal suctioning.
* Performs arterial punctures and obtains arterial blood samples from arterial lines. Performs analysis of blood gases.
* May attend high-risk deliveries as a member of the Neonatal Resuscitation Team.
* Performs non-invasive oxygen and carbon dioxide monitoring.
* Obtains and analyzes arterial blood gas samples.
* May perform pulmonary function testing, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing after training is complete in the Pulmonary Diagnostics Lab.
* May perform surfactant replacement therapy (NICU).
* May assess the respiratory status of newborn infants upon delivery (NICU)

10. Performs endotracheal intubation and performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation as required.

* Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury‑accident to the Manager.
* May assist physicians with Bronchoscopies, EBUS, Navigation, or CRYO when each competency is completed.
* May perform EEG's after completion of competency.
* Performs diagnostic cardiac testing including EKG's, rhythm strips, and 24-hour Holter monitoring.
* Performs charge and preceptor duties.
* CPAP Department Only:
* Instructs patients on the importance of CPAP and how to use all CPAP equipment.
* Follows up with patients that are in their first month of CPAP use.
* Checks to see that patients are being compliant with their CPAP.
* Assists with patient resupply.

REQUIRED

* Current and valid license as a Respiratory Care Professional (RCP) with the Georgia Composite Medical Board.
* Graduate of an accredited respiratory care program with an Associate's degree or equivalent.
* Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT), credentialed by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
* Therapists that have greater than 5 years of clinical experience and have a CRT or CRTT credential may be hired and are not required to hold a RRT.


* Applicants must have at least two (2) years of current experience post-residency/new graduate orientation in the clinical areas in which they will be working.
* Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) and/or Neonatal Resuscitation (NRP) by the American Heart Association.
* NRP is only required when rotating to the NICU or attending deliveries.


* Minimum of one year of experience with non-invasive pressure devices. (CPAP Department Only)

PREFERRED:

* A minimum of one (1) year of travel experience with an external or internal agency program (excluding float pools).
