We are looking for a Medical Coding Specialist to join our growing team. This role entails conducting thorough reviews and analysis of patient records to accurately report physician activities for the billing of professional services. This entails coding services using CPT-4 and ICD-10 codes based on a detailed review of physician documentation in patient records.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure charts of patients no longer in the care of practice physicians are abstracted within two working days post-discharge, achieving this 90% of the time.
  • Efficiently review up to 90 patient charts daily, extracting diagnoses, services rendered by physicians, and procedures for billing purposes with a 95% accuracy rate.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current coding practices relevant to the department's scope of services. Continual maintenance of procedural coder certification is required.
  • Act as an advisor to department physicians on patient care documentation standards and address any inquiries regarding documentation practices.
  • Accurately code diagnoses, service levels, and procedures in line with patient care documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Educational background in Health Information Management or an equivalent field, coupled with 2-3 years of relevant coding experience.
  • C.P.C. Certification (Certified Procedural Coder) is a mandatory requirement.
  • Experience in E/M and Critical Care coding will be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting medical records.
  • Essential computer, administrative, and organizational competencies.
  • Professional demeanor in telephone communication.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
  • Competent in interacting with both physicians and patients' families in a professional and supportive manner.
  • Proficient use of computers, with a preference for knowledge of EPIC.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Capable of working autonomously.
