General Responsibilities: This position reports to the Project Manager for Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training-RI, and is responsible for the planning, coordination, development, vision, and focus of the Crisis Intervention Team RI program. This position acts as the link amongst behavioral health providers, consumers, advocates, CIT International, and law enforcement within northern RI (Burrillville, North Smithfield, Woonsocket, Cumberland, Lincoln, Pawtucket, and Central Falls). This position is grant-funded through June 2026, with the possibility but not guarantee of extended funding.

Required Qualifications: Applicants lived experience will be considered when determining relevant qualifications.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work or related field
  • Provide own reliable transportation with proof of RI minimum requirements of auto insurance

Physical Effort/Environment: This role is a hybrid/remote position, with some onsite work done in a general office environment. Frequent in-state travel is required to meet the needs of the program. Manual dexterity needed for keyboard work, writing, and phone calls. Ability to lift up to 35 lbs (for event stand-up and breakdown).

Work Schedule Demands: Full-time work schedule, flexible hours. Some evening or weekend hours may be required as needed.

Communication Skills Effective verbal and writing communication skills. Ability to communicate and maintain effective relationships with partners organizations a must.

Significant Job Functions:
  • Work to enhance and expand Crisis Intervention Teams (CIT) in police departments in Northern RI.
  • Establish a network and link the police and the community in focusing on common goal of safety and create understanding and service to individuals experiencing mental illness/substance abuse and their families.
  • Responsible for the formation, management, and coordination of regional CIT Steering committee meetings.
  • Coordinate and conduct CIT Training for all levels of Law Enforcement including but not limited to:
    • Basic CIT
    • CIT-Telecommunications
    • Advanced CIT
    • In-Service, Conferences, and refresher classes
    • CIT Coordinators Course
  • Acts as a liaison between Thundermist, CIT-RI team, NAMI-RI, area mental health providers, family members, consumer's, law enforcement and the National and State CIT Coalitions
  • Welcome new leaders and demonstrate community support of CIT
  • Educate community members about proactive crisis planning
  • Attend the CIT International Conference annually (typically held in mid-late August), and other conferences as needed.
