Job Summary

The Clinical Support Technician serves primarily as a Unit Secretary for the Emergency Department. The Unit Secretary / Clinical Support Technician assists with bedside patient care suitable to unlicensed assistive personnel, provides administrative support to medical and nursing staff, and assists with scheduling and timekeeping duties for the department.

Job Responsibilities

* Deliver bedside care suitable to unlicensed assistive personnel, such as answering call lights, assisting with patient comfort and positioning, providing nutrition, and repeating vital signs/rounding.
* Assist nursing and medical staff in keeping patients and families informed.
* Escort patients to exam rooms and orienting to call light, etc.
* Complete timekeeping duties in UKG Pro, including entering payroll adjustments, fixing errors in punches, and tracking attendance and tardiness for all staff.
* Maintain department schedule, provide schedule previews, post finalized schedules, assign holidays and monitor staff vacation requests to ensure adequate coverage.
* Prepare shift assignment sheets as applicable.
* Assist with sending mass notifications or texts to cover staffing holes.
* Greet patients and family members, direct, and assist patients, families, ancillary staff, and visitors. Maintain nursing station in an orderly fashion.
* Contact other departments as directed to arrange for immediate diagnostic tests for patients and scheduling of outpatient procedures.
* Call or page consulting physicians or specialties as requested by providers.
* Sort patient paperwork at end of stay according to final disposition.
* Contact house supervisor to arrange for bed placement of patients and other needs as indicated by nursing staff.
* Triage and follow-up on incoming and outgoing communication in the department. Transfer calls or relay messages to proper personnel.
* Inventory and order office supplies for the department as needed. Keep supplies in proper storage areas and readily accessible.
* Complete unit specific administrative responsibilities applicable to patient care or unit operations as directed or assigned.
* Other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements

* Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent, familiarity with medical terminology
* Preferred: Course completion and certificate or diploma as a Certified Nurse Aide, Medical Assistant, or Emergency Medical Technician

Experience Requirements

* Minimum: One (1) year of secretarial or administrative work
* Preferred: Work experience in a health care setting

License/Certification Requirements

* Minimum: Must have BLS certification or obtain within six months of hire
* Preferred: CNA, MA, or EMT dependent on program of study completion
