Payroll Specialist

Bourns, Inc., a leading global supplier of reliable, high quality electronic components and solutions for over seventy-five years, seeks a Temporary Payroll Specialist. This role is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality and integrity of payroll including payroll processing, payroll tax filings, payroll tax remittances and recording, and reporting financial data as required by established corporate policies and procedures. Provides timely and accurate response to employee and management payroll-related questions as well as inquiries from regulators and auditors.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Computes, processes, and controls payroll to ensure paychecks are prepared correctly and established payroll procedures are followed.
* Maintains internal controls in the payroll system.
* Administers policies and procedures related to payroll, including maintaining a payroll processing manual, modifying existing forms and records, and recommending changes as necessary to keep payroll activities current with Company needs and legal requirements.
* Interfaces with the Human Resources and Information Technology departments in order to ensure continued processing and maintenance of electronic payroll systems to include training for procedures and controls.
* Processes the payroll interface to the General Ledger and is responsible for payroll-related journal entries and reconciliation of payroll-related general ledger accounts.
* Prepares payroll tax returns, makes timely payments of payroll taxes, handles payroll tax and workers' compensation audits, legal compliance with tax laws, and consolidates returns and analyses of payroll-related general ledger accounts.
* Prepares, reviews, and verifies monthly reports for payroll and supported activities to ensure proper and correct data for use by management.
* Reviews and reconciles trend reports of benefit deductions, 401K, and 401K Company Match monthly.
Qualifications Needed:
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or equivalent education, training or a combination of education and directly related work experience.
* Requires five years of experience in payroll processing and preparation of tax returns for 200 or more employees.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and email required, SuccessFactors and SAP R3 experience highly desirable.
