POSITION: Assistant Child Care Specialist

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Child Care Certification Specialist will accept, review, approve or deny all applications for professional type B home providers and in-home aides; complete inspections in a timely manner as outlined in OAC, provide support and information to home providers and aides around the areas of professionalism, curriculum, development, etc; maintain all necessary records for in-home providers and aides and follow up as needed, complete required paperwork for BCDJFS contracting requirements. The Child Care Certification Specialist will also be responsible for the marketing and recruitment of new providers, targeting specific areas in which limited options are available for families in need of care.
Description- Assistant Child Care Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred in social services, early childhood education, family studies, or related field or associate degree with relative experience.
  • Two years experience working in child care or child care licensing
  • Knowledge and experience in Ohio Administrative Code, Daycare rules preferred
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, Butler County community resources, and the child-serving systems
  • Demonstrated ability to model, guide, and support a variety of formal and informal engagement and intervention strategies
  • Strong interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Proven ability to work with both the formal and informal service systems and to build partnerships in the community
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work in a flexible, developmental way
  • Computer expertise
  • Valid driver's license
  • History of good job attendance
  • Must pass criminal background checks and be free from communicable disease

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide centralized intake for all inquiries and applications for certification for professional type B home provider and/or in-home aides.
  • Certify all providers who meet standards outlined in OAC 5101:2-14
  • Conduct ongoing inspections and reviews of current providers contracted with BCDJFS and report accordingly
  • Deny or revoke certificates for providers who are in violation of requirements of OAC 5101:2-14 and report accordingly
  • Provide consultation, information, and referrals for providers and/or families utilizing home based childcare providers
  • Support providers in creating educational goals for youth enrolled in their homes and report data accordingly
  • Assess support needs of home providers
  • Create and distribute marketing materials throughout Butler County targeting areas with limited options for childcare resources
  • Collect and analyze evaluation data for all training events
  • To network with early childhood education and social services professionals to understand the training and support needs
  • To attend meetings and conferences as assigned by the superintendent and/or his designee
  • To work cooperatively with all staff to efficiently coordinate services
  • To continuously update and improve professional competence
  • To perform other tasks, consistent with the position, as may be assigned

OTHER DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:
  • To serve as a role model for staff, families, and children in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings.
  • To help instill in staff, families, and children the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of: Ohio Department of Job and Family Services daycare rules and requirements; Board policies and procedures, building policies and procedures, public relations, and state and federal reporting.
  • Ability to: Successfully work with childcare providers and early childhood professionals to improve the quality of service delivery to families and children; work in a changing environment and be able to shift and/or manage priorities; interpret policy, rules and regulations; compile and prepare required reports;
  • communicate effectively; build trust; lift a moderate amount of weight up to 40 pounds; transport self and materials to work sites.
  • Skill in: Use of computer, and instructional and office equipment.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
Copier, fax, computer and general office equipment.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Occasional: Exposure to unruly children/adults, blood, bodily fluids and tissue

Periodic: Exposure to inclement weather driving conditions and severe weather; attends functions or performs duties outside the normal working hours.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary and work year as established by the Governing Board. The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non - prescribed controlled substance use in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.

STARTING DATE: August 2024
SALARY: Based on Board Approved Salary Schedule
BENEFITS: Excellent benefits for all full-time employees
WORK YEAR: Full time - 227 days
