POSITION SUMMARY
The PCT is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities, as supervised and directed by the RN. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the patient-focused care team. Overall responsibilities are to assist the team in meeting patient care needs. Under the direction and supervision of the RN, the PCT assists with maintaining unit operations in compliance with hospital and regulatory agency standards, and in accordance with the established Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University patient satisfaction philosophy.
The PCT is responsible for:
* Maintaining a therapeutic milieu.
* Reinforcing patient education.
* Maintaining safety.
* Emergency preparedness.
* Infection control.
* Information management.
* Reporting patient's complaints to the patient's assigned nurse.
* Implementing age-specific interventions.
* Reporting patient behaviors indicative of fall risk.
Technical skills include:
* Recording & transmitting EKG's, specimen collection, phlebotomy skills, and Accucheck.
* Applying therapeutic holds & restraint in physical crisis situations.
* Operating specialty beds, assistive equipment, and mechanical lifts and scales.
* The PCT performs clerical functions, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
For Hire: High School Diploma or GED required. Successful completion of designated portions of PCA training and additional PCT training.
Ongoing: Demonstrates competence to meet essential job functions. Maintains knowledge related to patient care issues, performance improvement and cost reduction, current policies,
procedures, and protocols; completes annual education and health requirements; maintains current CPR. Demonstrates computer skills required to meet job functions.
