Responsibilities:
* Assist with patient care & daily activities.
* Perform core nursing assistant duties (e.g., blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, specimen collection, Foley care)
* Monitor patient status and report changes to the RN.
* Communicate effectively with healthcare team members and other departments.
* Assist with patient restraints and provide instruction to patients and families under RN direction.
* Support unit activities, including call light response, meal tray delivery, and patient transport.
* Maintain safety and adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
* Document patient care in medical records and perform clerical duties as needed.
* Engage in department projects and quality initiatives.
Qualifications:
* Strong work ethic, team player, positive outlook, loves to learn, strong customer service skills strongly preferred
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* One of the following:
a) 1 year of general healthcare experience
b) 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency within 120 days
c) Enrollment in PT/OT/PA or related healthcare program with at least one clinical rotation completed
d) Bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
* Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class.
* Effective oral and written communication skills.
* Limited access to medications for nurse distribution.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
* Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within 30 days of hire (AHA standards).
* ACLS preferred.
* Act 33, Act 34, with renewals.
