The person in this position has a faculty appointment in the CoN and reports directly to the Dean. The position combines teaching, scholarship, and service. We define teaching as creating environments that facilitate student learning and the attainment of expected outcomes at the course and program levels. Faculty has ownership for the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of the curricula within the CoN which are designed to prepare graduates to provide nursing care in a dynamic health care environment. Service implies the use of academic and professional expertise to serve the University, the nursing profession, and the community. Service consists of meaningful activities that promote the image, mission or strategic priorities of the University, the well-being of relevant individuals or groups among the community of interest or the professional growth of faculty. Scholarship reflects activities, including practice, resulting in the translation, production, reorganization/refinement, dissemination, or creation of work that advances knowledge and practice in nursing.
Position Summary: The MSN-CLE (Master of Science in Nursing Clinical Leadership Education) Program Director is the academic leader responsible for the leadership and management of administrative, curricular, and student/faculty issues of the program. The Director maintains standards for professional accreditation, university policy, and plans and manages the budget. They collaborate with leaders and administrative staff across the Academic Affairs Division to sustain strategic planning goals and priorities consistent with University values and mission. They model appropriate ethical and professional behaviors, as well as expert communication skills.Duties and Responsibilities:

Major Areas of responsibilities include but not limited to:

Administration (75%)

General Program Oversight
  • Manages the MSN-CLE program in conjunction with university and graduate leadership, and program faculty.
  • Ensures that the MSN-CLE program complies with all regulations and CCNE accreditation requirements.
  • Ensures the integrity of the instructional delivery of the MSN-CLE curriculum.
  • Serves as the hiring manager for the MSN-CLE Program, for adjunct and annualized faculty (regular and annual)
  • Conducts the annual faculty evaluations of all MSN-CLE faculty; ensures that adjunct faculty are evaluated at expected intervals.
  • Preparing regulatory related items for CCNE, program evaluation reports, etc.
  • Provides progressive discipline to direct reports, as needed
  • Actively engage in the cross-divisional, collaborative program marketing/recruitment/admissions activity as advised/directed by the CoN Dean
  • Collaborates with the appropriate university leadership for development of partnerships with academic and practice organizations.
  • Effective collaboration with CoN leadership and university departments
  • Ensures university and college of nursing policies and procedures are operational.
  • Recommends changes in university and college of nursing policies and procedures as needed.
  • Attends university and college of nursing ceremonies and events that are related to the MSN-CLE program.
  • Development and review of program courses to ensure program expectations are being met and in compliance with accrediting bodies.

Students
  • Collaborates closely with the Admissions Department in regard to MSN-CLE student recruitment and admission.
  • Provides oversight for the submission of course schedules and faculty assignments for the MSN-CLE program.
  • Identifies and assigns student advisors in collaboration with campus academic directors

Curriculum & Instruction
  • Manages the curriculum and instructional programs.
  • Collaborates with student services and orientation, scheduling, grievance procedures, advising, retention, special services, awards, and graduation processes for the MSN-CLE program.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of student program orientation.
  • Facilitates informal resolutions to student disputes after course faculty has intervened.
  • Communicates issues regarding student performance to program administrators on an ongoing basis.

Faculty & Staff Development and Mentorship
  • Oversees the hiring of qualified faculty.
  • Oversees faculty course assignments.
  • Oversees faculty development.
  • Completes annual faculty evaluation for MSN-CLE faculty.
  • Supervises and mentors faculty through all institutional mechanisms and processes available.
  • In collaboration with the faculty development coordinator, identifies faculty orientation and professional development needs.
  • Conducts or provides input for the selection of adjunct faculty.

Financial, Resource & Systems Management
  • Provides information to the Associate Dean of Operations & Partnerships for macro budget planning for the MSN-CLE program.
  • Manages the program budget.
  • Identifies grant opportunities for the MSN-CLE program and oversees, as appropriate.
  • Assists in identifying new program opportunities for nursing and developing proposals for their development and implementation.

Reports & Documentation
  • Prepares accreditation and other relevant reports for the MSN-CLE program.
  • Represents the program, the school, and the university at relevant external conferences, workshops, and meetings.

Teaching (25%)
  • Teaches in area of expertise.
  • Creates a dynamic, learner centered environment that uses a variety of teaching methods that support the diverse learning needs of the student population and that are based on educational theory, and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices.
  • Models reflective and critical thinking and serves as a coach and mentor for students; confers with them on their progress and assists them in the development of learning plans to facilitate successful achievement of course objectives.
  • Maintains and enhances competence in subjects being taught.
  • Confers with colleagues to ensure the integrity of the courses across programs and the curriculum as a whole.
  • Prepares and reviews written examinations, papers, and student projects; supervises independent study projects as needed and evaluates learner performance in both the classroom and clinical settings.
  • Collaborates with faculty concerning at-risk students or unusual occurrences.
  • Documents student progress on appropriate forms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Scholarship*
  • Draws on extant literature to design evidence-based teaching and evaluation practices.
  • Exhibits a spirit of inquiry about teaching and learning, student development, evaluation methods, and other aspects of the faculty role.
  • Demonstrates qualities of a scholar: integrity, courage, perseverance, vitality and creativity.
  • Designs and implements scholarly activities as agreed upon with his/her evaluator.
  • Engages in scholarly activities reflecting dissemination and professional peer review.

Service*

  • Provides service to the profession and the community
  • Participates in University and CoN events as specified in University and SON attendance expectations

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience
  • A completed doctoral degree, or one in progress, in nursing or a related field from an accredited institution of higher learning (e.g., PhD, DNP, DNSc, DNS, EdD) is highly desirable.
  • Active, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse (RN), eligible for licensure in California
  • Demonstrated teaching experience of diverse students at the baccalaureate or higher degree level, preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in academic administration highly desirable
  • Experience with different modalities for instructional delivery desirable
