Minimum Qualifications

* Master's degree and a minimum of 10 (ten) years of professional administrative experience in higher education or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. This should include at least five years of leadership experience within academic advising, student success and graduation initiatives, or related areas within a college/university setting.
* Experience in supervising a large professional staff.
* Effective collaboration skills with diverse stakeholders.
* Proficiency in using enterprise-level student success platforms.
* Utilization of evidence-based research for program development and assessment.
* Knowledge of current literature and best practices in advising, student success, persistence, and retention.
* Strong analytical skills for data-informed decision-making.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and a track record of building partnerships.
* A track record of development and implementation of student retention initiatives to close equity gaps and foster an inclusive campus climate.

Desired Qualifications

* Doctorate (PhD or EdD)
* Experience in a research university setting and university/college level teaching experience.

Unless otherwise required by an applicable collective bargaining agreement, all minimum, additional and desired qualifications are preferred, but qualifications, degrees, and/or experience deemed comparable and/or equivalent by Oakland University in its sole and exclusive discretion may be considered.

Position Details Position Purpose

The successful candidate will be entrusted with the critical mission of improving the academic advising system at Oakland University, aligning it with the institution's strategic goal of student success. This role involves collaboration across academic affairs and student services divisions to establish a comprehensive vision aimed at mitigating equity gaps, thus fostering higher retention and degree completion rates. The vision entails creating a robust advising community with a structure and resources that accommodate diverse student needs, with special emphasis on underrepresented minority students and first-generation students. This position will be tasked with facilitating seamless exploration and migration from the First-Year Advising Center to academic majors within the Colleges of Arts and Science and professional schools-Business, Nursing, Engineering, Education & Human Services, Health Sciences, and Music, Theater & Dance.
