BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating all functions of the Food and Nutrition Services Department. Provides leadership to staff; establishes policies and procedures. Monitors financial performance and seeks vendor contracts to achieve budget projections. Develops quality assurance standards and monitors indicators for food and nutrition. Works closely with managers to achieve goals.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Supervisory Responsibilities: YES

Minimum Education: Bachelors; Masters preferred

Degree: Food Systems Administration, Food Science, Nutrition, or related field

Minimum Work Experience: Five years experience in health care food service management required. Clinical nutrition experience preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

* Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written,) MS Office skills, ability to solve problems, excellent organization and time management skills, leadership skills, fiscal responsibility, ability to work with families and providers, customer service focused, forward thinking.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

* Establishes, maintains, interprets and evaluates Food and Nutrition departmental policies and procedures in accordance with state and national food regulations as well as within organizational values.
* Plans, coordinates and evaluates Food and Nutrition Services departmental activities within the hospital organizational structure to ensure that services are adequate and appropriate… Participates and provides expertise to hospital committees.
* Develops, implements and evaluates Food and Nutrition Services departmental programs and services, within framework of long and short-range goals.
* Effectively manages departmental fiscal resources in an effort to reduce costs and maximize savings. Works with prime vendor and GPO to maximize savings.
* Works to improve and/or maintain the quality of services provided.
* Coordinates student affiliations with Food and Nutrition Services.
* Reviews department performance, affects changes, as needed, to improve services provided and ensure compliance with both hospital guidelines and regulatory requirements, and keeps administration informed of department/program activities, needs, and problems
* Effectively communicates departmental, organizational, and industrial information to staff and others and coordinates department functions with other hospital departments and maintains good employee relations, interdepartmental relations, and public relations.
* Completes responsibilities in a timely manner through effective organization, setting priorities, delegation, and time management skills.
* Manages department/unit/area human resources (HR) to ensure quality services and promote positive employee relations.
* Provides leadership, supervision, and guidance including planning and direction to the Food and Nutrition Services department and develops job design and standards of performance. Evaluates performances and makes recommendations for personnel actions such as merit increases, promotions, and corrective action.
* Willingly assists staff and mentors new staff and willingly accepts any other assignment that may be requested.
* Prepares monthly statistical and financial reports and develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that the department operates within allocated funds. Applies cost-effective measures to select and purchase equipment and supplies via capital budget process.
* Monitors, reviews, justifies and implements strategies to improve financial performance of Food and Nutrition Services.
* Utilizes hospital resources and time respectfully and accountably. Manages time efficiently and is always contributing while on the job.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS-Note: Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.

* Light lifting, pushing and pulling is required for 1-20 lbs occasionally and frequent moving of objects of less than 10 lbs is required. Frequent sitting with some walking, standing, squatting, bending, and reaching is required. Keyboard/computer use and/or repetitive motions may be required.
