Job description
Western Building Group is a Mesa, Arizona-based construction company specializing in ACM and sheet metal roofing and siding. We're looking for a Safety Manager, experienced in the construction industry, to support our Arizona team members in safe work practices. The Safety Manager will help implement and monitor the company's safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Create a culture of safety for our people by maintaining the company's safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA) rules and regulations.
Plan and implement programs to train managers and employees in work site safety practices, injury prevention and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment, and other safety related items.
Inspect company facilities and projects to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, determine corrective or preventative measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Handle all OSHA related issues such as inspections, yearly reports, job site posters, citations, and hearings. Perform field safety audits to ensure compliance with all OSHA, State, Local and company safety rules and regulations.
Complete all accident/injury/incident reporting and performs investigations to determine cause and possible preventive measures for future work of a similar nature. Further investigates all injury claims to ensure company is protected from fraudulent worker compensation claims.
Makes corrective action recommendations to upper management concerning safety and health issues that may affect the company.
Regularly reviews worker compensation claims data for possible employer modification rate adjustments.
Purchase required safety equipment for company.
Manages the transitional return to work program for injured workers.
Manage the safety incentive bonus program.
Provide inspection reports to project team and supervisors for job sites or facilities that are inspected.
Compile and submit accident and yearly reports required by regulatory agencies.
Conduct employee safety orientation training programs and new hire safety orientations.
Maintain safety and accident records, files, trainings, Activity Hazard Reports (AHA's) and safety tracking reports.
Accompany all safety, health, and insurance inspectors on walk throughs for jobsites as required.
Assist the Investigation of vehicle damage accidents and prepare required reports.
Organize yearly Safety Meetings and maintain employee training logs and coordinate training needs for all safety related issues.
Maintain and administer safety related tracking and paperwork.
Maintain and administer the Company SDS manuals.
Assemble and manage site specific safety plans when required.
Maintain safety manual, emergency management plan and loss control manual.
Recommend and enforce disciplinary actions against safety policy violations.
Attend safety related seminars, meetings, forums, etc. as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Strong communication skills, both in written and verbal form.
Must be familiar with scope of construction site safety.
Highly dependable and committed to a full-time, 40-hour/week, in-person schedule, Monday - Friday. Available outside of regular office hours to direct work or support crews as needed.
Must have basic familiarity with Office Software.
Recognizes liability and safety exposures and supports established policies and procedures.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent goals.

Construction Terminology
Capable of reading and interpreting business journals, technical procedures, government regulations, and write reports, correspondence, and procedures

Competent to effectively present information to management, general contractors, and public groups.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position takes place in a general office environment. Work is generally 33% office, 33% field and 33% training in nature and may require standing and walking for up to 50% of the time. The work environment is generally favorable but may encounter adverse weather conditions while visiting projects. Required to work in loud, high, precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, working near moving parts and heavy machinery and around fumes. When work is performed within an office environment, standard office equipment will be available.
