POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mental Health/Disabilities Specialist coordinates the mental health and disabilities services to children and families within our Early Head Start/Head Start programs. This individual reports to the Director of Mental Health and Disabilities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

* Obtain diagnostic reports and confirmation of disability from appropriate medical or mental health professionals and assist with follow-up. Discuss diagnosis with parents and obtain consent for services.
* Arranges, coordinates, and monitors all services to disabled children, including contractual and CST services.
* Assures accurate, complete, and confidential maintenance of all children's records; the forms are up-to-date and comprehensive.
* Regularly consults with parents and staff on the progress of disability/mental health services provided to eligible children.
* Observes children and consults with site staff and Mental Health providers to develop appropriate intervention strategies.
* Actively engages parents and Mental Health Consultants in planning and implementing the individual mental health needs of children and families.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

* Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in a field related to childhood mental health, child development, or exceptional children (required)
* A minimum of four (4) years working in an inclusive Early Childhood setting (required)
