Mental Health Clinician

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**

**1. Assesses treatment needs and provides evidence supported individual, group, and family treatment for consumer's with co-occurring disorder that is consistent with the service design and philosophy of the program, as ctinically indicated, to assigned clients.**

a. Provides assessments with empathy and concern for consumers, as indicated by supervisory observation.

b. Arrives at accurate diagnoses by the end of the evaluation session and updates when new information and clinical status warrant.
- c. Provides co-occurring services as clinically indicated and ensures that all subordinate clinical staff does the same.

1. States the value of treating substance abuse and mental illness concurrently.

2. Integrates the disease concept of substance abuse and addiction into practice. \

3. Demonstrates the ability to use the stages of change approach by providing documented interventions targeted to the identified stage of the person served.

4. Demonstrates principles of Motivational Interviewing when working with the person served.

d. Demonstrates ability to engage consumers and families, assess mutual readiness for change, assess stage of recovery, and motivate consumers toward common goals through the appropriate use of services as observed by supervisor in case presentation.

e. Understands-the impact of the consumer's age, cognitive functioning, stage of recovery, and developmental level on treatment plan-and goals, as measured by supervisory observation.
- f. Involves consumer and/or family in developing achievable and understandable psychosocial treatment plans in accordance with accepted professional standards and the individual's goals, as indicated by supervisory observation and record review.

g. Supports and empowers consumers to advocate for appropriate resources for themselves and their families based on assessed needs, as indicated by supervisory observation and record review.

h. Assesses and responds to risk by modulating mode, frequency, and intensity of interventions according to clinical need.

i. Assists consumers in effectively managing crises/dangerous situations and formulating a crisis/safety plan, as measured by supervisory observation,

j. Responds with clinical flexibility to consumer's needs, as measured by supervisory observation.

k. Understands and responds with sensitivity to cultural, spiritual, recovery, and socio-economic values and concerns of consumers, as evidenced in case conference and supervision.

I. Manages termination/transfer issues in an effective and timely manner, as measured by supervisory observation.

m. Manages caseload demands effectively, while considering both the quality of care and agency needs, as assessed by supervisory staff.

n. Spends required amount of time in direct service in a manner consistent with program philosophy and mandates.

2. **Makes appropriate case disposition and referral decisions.**

a. Effectively refers and/or terminates consumers who are not appropriate for services at ISP.

b. Effectively assesses and refers consumers with co-occurring diagnoses to recovery group treatment.

c. Effectively educates consumers regarding treatment philosophy and procedures at ISP.

10. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state **and ISP **regulations, laws, and policies as they presently eust and as they_c oraremodified.

**JOB REQUIREMENTS**:
**LCADC or CADC with LCSW/LPC**

Master's Degree in a mental health or related discipline and a New Jersey license as required by discipline plus two (2) years postmaster's experience in the mental health field, or Doctorate. Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification censure as required by the State Board of Social Work. May work at least one (1) evening per week and up-to two weekend days per month.

Demonstrated competency in treating_adults, adolescents and families with co-occurring disorders. Ability _to _assess level of care needs and provide individual, family, and outpatient group therapy-treatment. Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred. Competency with electronic clinical documentation preferred. Ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions.
