Position Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our team at App Gastroenterology. The Medical Assistant will play a key role in supporting our physicians and clinical staff in delivering excellent patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our clinic. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills, exceptional communication abilities, and a passion for providing compassionate care to patients with gastrointestinal conditions.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist physicians and nurses in the examination and treatment of patients with gastrointestinal disorders.
  2. Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are stocked with necessary supplies and equipment.
  3. Escort patients to examination rooms, obtain vital signs, and update medical history as needed.
  4. Assist with procedures such as colonoscopies, endoscopies, and sigmoidoscopies, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  5. Perform basic laboratory tests, including blood draws, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
  6. Administer medications and vaccines as directed by physicians, adhering to medication administration protocols.
  7. Provide patient education on gastrointestinal conditions, treatment plans, and preventive measures.
  8. Document patient information, medical histories, and treatment plans accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  9. Assist with scheduling patient appointments, referrals, and follow-up visits as needed.
  10. Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements in all clinical activities.
  11. Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to facilitate efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
  12. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations at all times.

Compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and certification. Hiring compensation ranges from $16.00-$23.20 per hour. This position is eligible for benefits after a 60-day waiting period.

What You Need

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a medical assisting program or relevant certification preferred.
  2. Proven experience working as a medical assistant in a clinical setting, preferably in gastroenterology or internal medicine.
  3. Proficiency in medical terminology, clinical procedures, and documentation practices.
  4. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues.
  5. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
  6. Basic computer skills and experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  7. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required at time of hire; additional certifications such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) required at 1 year from date of hire.
  8. Knowledge of infection control protocols, OSHA guidelines, and patient safety standards.
  9. Compassionate demeanor and a commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care.
  10. Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
