Position Summary: The Director of Clinical Affairs is an administrative position with 100% time for administrative duties, subject to change based on School of Nursing's needs.
The Co-Directors of Clinical Affairs, with the assistance of the Clinical Coordination Team, operationalize the clinical agency agreements for prelicensure and graduate nursing students across all campuses. Collaborate with the pre-licensure and graduate program directors with clinical activities to meet program outcomes and accreditation standards. Manages the function of the clinical coordinators on the Oakland, San Francisco Peninsula, Sacramento, and Fresno campuses and collaborate with the Academic Director, Prelicensure Programs on the Sacramento Campus, to ensure appropriate and adequate clinical placements and preceptorships; and, participate as a leader for the Clinical Coordination and pre-licensure teams.Duties and Responsibilities:
Major Areas of responsibilities include but not limited to:
Administration (100%)
- Lead the team of clinical coordinators who serve as liaisons between pre-licensure and graduate programs and clinical agency nursing education contact personnel.
- Manage the Clinical Coordinators on the Oakland, Sacramento, San Francisco Peninsula, and Fresno campuses to provide guidance and direction to ensure clinical placements are being secured as required.
- In collaboration with the Academic Director, Prelicensure Programs on the Sacramento Campus to ensure clinical placements are being secured and to provide additional support.
- Manage the Oakland Campus Clinical Coordination Team administrative assistant (AA). The AA reports directly to this position and supports all members of the team.
- Coordinate pre-licensure clinical and preceptorship placements.
- Collaborate with the Program Directors of the pre-licensure programs to identify appropriate clinical sites based on course learning outcomes.
- Collaborate with pre-licensure leadership team to ensure student compliance with each agency's health and safety requirements for faculty and student clearance to practice in that agency.
- Develop a process to educate and support faculty of the compliance requirements for the clinical sites they are assigned and provide them an orientation and introduction to the clinical site and its key point of contact. Conduct audits and tracks compliance/performance improvement activities to ensure accuracy of records for clinical compliance.
- Identify areas for process improvement and make recommendations for change to Assistant Dean, Clinical Affairs.
- Coordinate collection of evaluations from clinical sites, students, and faculty regarding student placements and creates and disseminates reports to pre-licensure nursing and CoN leadership
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with key contacts at each agency. Coordinates annual or semiannual meetings with affiliates.
- Represent Clinical Coordination Team at regional nursing meetings, i.e., Sutter Health Educational Leadership (SHEL).
- Update the clinical illness/injury policy and procedure as necessary, communicate any changes to the faculty and maintain current policy and procedures.
- Manage relevant data storage and tracking software and provides faculty development for use of these programs.
- Maintain and analyze data obtained in relation to student clinical/preceptorship placement evaluation and quality improvement for accrediting bodies (i.e., BRN, CCNE)
- Assist in training and support of the Clinical Coordinators and Administrative Assistants to ensure they have the resources they need to do their jobs efficiently and can support one another.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
Education & Experience
- Minimum of master's degree in nursing, business or health administration and specialization in project management.
- At least five years facilitating clinical relationships and student communication for clinical clearance and or academic programs

Samuel Merritt University currently provides base salary ranges for all positions-on job advertisements-in the United States based on local requirements. Individual compensation will ultimately be determined based on a variety of relevant factors including but-not limited to qualifications, geographic location, and other relevant skills.
