Overview

Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunity for an LPN to support our Chesapeake Office.

Responsibilities

* Provides general nursing care to patients.
* Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
* Observes, records, and reports patients condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
* Completes paperwork including but not limited to FMLA, disability, Home Health/Hospice, and transfusion orders
* Screens patients for appropriate information.
* Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls.
* Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
* Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
* Arranges transfusions and hospital admissions upon request
* Assures appropriate consent has been obtained prior to treatment or procedures
* Prepares exam rooms including re-stocking of treatment areas.
* Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians.
* Arranges for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications of hospital admissions as needed.

Qualifications

* High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing. BSN preferred.
* Requires a minimum of two years experience as a practical nurse (with Central Line Care and IV skills) in a hospital or clinic setting.
* Phlebotomy experience preferred.
* Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state.
* Current CPR certification required.
* Must be willing to travel between offices when needed.
