Job Responsibilities

We are seeking Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) for a flexible staffing arrangement, allowing for additional hours while maintaining an average of no more than 29 hours per week.

LPNs are responsible for delivering evidence-based nursing care by utilizing the nursing process, principles, and techniques of general nursing care as outlined by established Standards of Practice under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Duties include screening for health concerns, administering medications, and providing first aid and basic life support as required. Effective communication with security and treatment personnel is essential to assist in formulating a comprehensive treatment plan. Accurate documentation of all relevant information in the medical record is expected. Collaboration with other departments may be necessary. Continuous professional development through education and certification focused on correctional nursing is encouraged. Flexibility in working hours, days, and locations is required to meet institutional needs. Assignments may vary to fulfill clinical and administrative demands of the Department.

This position is classified as a wage role, limited to a maximum of 1,500 hours within a specified annual period, with an average of no more than 29 hours per week. This role does not offer state benefits.

Minimum Qualifications

- Graduate from an accredited nursing program
- Possession of a valid, unrestricted Virginia LPN license or a multi-state compact license (recent graduates must schedule the NCLEX-PN exam at the time of application)
- Proven ability to assess physical complaints and refer cases to appropriate medical professionals
- Experience in executing provider's orders for treatments
- Competence in maintaining accurate documentation
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers, current certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.

Additional Considerations

- Experience in a corrections or law enforcement setting
- Training or experience in general nursing and emergency medical care delivery.
