JOB TITLE: School Psychologist

DEPARTMENT: Teaching and Learning

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

CONTRACT STATUS: Full-time / 180-days / Extra Duty 5 days / Extra Duty 5%

SUMMARY: Evaluate students to determine eligibility for Special Education services and present a report to the multidisciplinary team. Test may include cognitive, academic, psychological/social emotional, and perceptual test.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: These statements are intended to describe the responsibilities assigned to this position and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills required.
  1. Conducts extensive psychoeducational evaluations of referred students
  2. Participates in case conferences for students suspected of having a disability, or as requested
  3. Serves as a resource person for other school personnel on physical, medical, mental, and emotional conditions which may affect the learning environment
  4. Interprets diagnostic and assessment results to school personnel, other concerned professionals, parents and students
  5. Analyzes available data and makes recommendations on interventions for students who have been referred or are receiving special education services
  6. Conducts Functional Behavior Assessments, develops behavior intervention plans, and serves as a resource to the team when addressing the needs of students whose behavior may affect their learning or the learning of others
  7. Conducts Manifestation Determination Reviews for students who are receiving services under IDEA or Section 504 when students are involved in a disciplinary change of placement
  8. Maintains current and extensive knowledge of legal requirements under IDEA and Section 504, as well as Oklahoma policies and procedures for special education
  9. Works well with both supervisors and other members of the team
  10. Maintains consistent and punctual attendance
  11. Performs other duties assigned by supervisor or administrator.
  12. Assists with special projects.
  13. All other duties as assigned by the administrator.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  1. Educational Specialist Degree or Post-Master's Certification in School Psychology or equivalent
  2. Valid Oklahoma Teaching Certificate

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Computer literate; excellent written and oral communication ability; strong knowledge of rules, regulations, policies and laws applicable to education and special education. Ability to follow all district policies and procedures. Ability to work independently, displaying initiative and enthusiasm for the tasks being done. Demonstrating strong communication skills, orally and in writing, with faculty, staff, team members, and administrators. Ability to work without supervision, and work as a team player. Ability to document records accurately. Ability to manage confidential information in a manner that respects students, families, and employees. Ability to listen effectively. Must be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret English language including common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints. Ability to write reports and correspondence consistent with the duties of this position. Ability to display courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory.

LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Current driver's license in good standing.

OTHER SKILLS/EXPECTATIONS: Develops cooperative and functional relationships with district staff and the public; maintains consistent and punctual attendance; insures job responsibilities are met competently and within established deadlines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit at a desk or in meetings for long periods; travel to school sites; and using keyboarding skills, work on a computer for long period, and must be able to routinely lift and carry assessment kits and materials weighing 5 - 10 pounds.
