Job Summary

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for acting as the front-line safety professional conducting safety inspections, observations, investigations, safety training, and regulatory compliance for OSHA, DOT, and EPA. This position will be focused and give support to the Power/Electrical department. This position supports personnel across all the department.

Responsibilities

Identifies and evaluates hazardous conditions, safe work practices and behaviors in overhead/underground electric distribution system construction worksites.

* Recognizes hazardous energies and the proper elimination, controls and barriers necessary to reduce risk of injuries and damages.
* Communicates, coaches and trains employees on the current HSE Work Practice and HSE Rules, safety procedures and policies.
* Conducts observations of crews and work activities and performs investigations of motor vehicle, employee injury and property/utility damage incidents and prepares reports for management team reviews.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

* High voltage OH/UG electric experience.
* 10+ year's work experience in the utility infrastructure construction or related industry.
* 3 - 5 years of experience in safety professional roles.

Preferred Qualifications

* Bilingual - Spanish.
* OSHA 30 training; advanced OSHA construction standards knowledge.
* CUSP certification, or OSHA training certification recognized.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This job operates in a field environment. This role routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Also, working in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This position is physically active, with lifting required. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
