POSITION SUMMARY

Sr./Project coordinator is responsible for leading and facilitating multiple, concurrent projects from concept development through construction and handover. With project managers, the project coordinator employs project management methods consistent with PMI standards and ensures all projects meet expected outcomes, comply with federal, state, and local codes. are completed on schedule and within budget. The project coordinator works directly with internal and external partners to plan and coordinate materials, equipment, and personnel to complete projects, and provides dedicated management and oversight of contractors.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
  • Work effectively within the company's Project Management Office
  • Develop and execute project plans, budgets, schedules
  • Define and create project scope of work, bill of materials, and monitor procurement of materials
  • Manage contractors and consultants; coordinate directly with agencies and property owners
  • Determine and facilitate acquisition of material and necessary equipment for projects
  • Maintain and ensure complete documentation of projects, upload into management systems
  • Attend coordination and progress meetings. Lead meetings in the PM's absence
  • Make regular site visits during construction to include bid walks, pre-construction walks, in-progress site visits, punch walks, and construction closeout
  • Advise project managers and the Senior Director, PMO on all project-related matters
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable state, federal and local codes and regulations pertaining to design, construction, and maintenance of outside plant and/or wireless communications facilities.
  • Translate information in drawings, blueprints, specifications, spreadsheets, as-builds, etc. to others within the organization.
  • Administer contracts, evaluate work in progress, manage and direct personnel and contractors as needed
  • Maintain project risk, contract, quality and task management.

  • Project Coordination Skills - Must process strong organization, planning, analytical and problem solving skills. Will assist project managers and directors in leadership and management of all aspects projects on multiple, small-scale project planning, execution, timing, and functionality, quality, communication, and cost. Will draft and update project plans as directed by the project manager, lead meetings for issues, risks, change, and action items. Maintain project plans, provide project metrics, facilitate weekly update meetings, and create/update compliance and project documentation. Ensure timely and accurate communication with project staff throughout the life cycle of the project.
  • Project Documentation/Information Management - Will facilitate project meetings and capture minutes of decisions, issues, and action items. Will manage project documentation with the Microsoft SmartSheets including status reporting, meeting minutes, risks, issues, action items, and other communications.
  • Relationship Building - Ability to effectively build relationships with customers, community members and co-workers.
  • Technology Understanding and Expertise - Big picture view of telecom networks (Ethernet, IP, SONET, switching, wireless, microwave, satellite), the technologies, process and systems used to engineer, design, build and operate such networks. More importantly, understanding the technology trends that are of importance to your customers and having the skills to serve as a trusted advisor to customers in the technology space.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Management, Business, Telecommunications, or related field is preferred. A combination of relevant work and/or education sufficient to perform the duties of the job may be substituted for the degree on a year for one-year basis.

Preferred: Industry specific certifications are highly valued and may contribute toward education. Certified Construction Management (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certifications highly valued.

Experience: A minimum of one (1) year project management experience including developing SOW's, BOM's and schedules, is required; experience in the telecommunications industry is preferred. Logistical and procurement experience is highly desirable.

Preferred: A minimum of three (3) years project coordination and/or management experience or management experience in a related field is required. Responsibilities include budget and project schedule management, development of professional, legally sufficient documents, and leading planning teams.

Computer Skills: Strong hands-on experience MS Project, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel, Access and Outlook. Must be able to use Computer Aided Drafting products.

Preferred: Extensive computer experience is essential. Must know or be able to rapidly develop proficiency is SmartSheets and other software applications used by Alaska Communications.
