PURPOSE OF POSITION

This position is a home visitor in the home-based program option who is responsible for education, case management, and family advocacy to families in an assigned caseload by providing and linking families to comprehensive services, including home visits and socialization activities. This position may work with infants and toddlers with developmental/physical delays. Because this position is one part of a large system of services provided to children and families, this position also serves as a social service referral person and shares responsibility for parent involvement in the program. The position works in tandem with the rest of the parts of the system as an integrated team to support the goals of the program.


Role and Responsibilities

EHS Home Visitor Supervises all home-based curriculum activities, field trips, and socialization activities, Collaborate with the parents, plans and provides a developmentally and linguistically appropriate curriculum and experiences in a manner appropriate to the ages, languages, and cultures of children served, Provides each family on caseload with weekly 90-minute home visits in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards. Provides family-centered services that facilitate child development, support parental roles and promote self-sufficiency. Locates resources, develops materials, and provides age-appropriate activities related to the culture of each family.


The EHS Home Visitor also Works with families to plan and implement learning experiences that support school readiness, Implements home-based education lesson plans and weekly programs for each family in accordance with each child's need, based on a method of observing and recording children's interests and current levels of functioning, Assists families to support social and emotional development and provide positive guidance and discipline, Maintains a commitment to professionalism and continues own professional development so that decisions are based on knowledge of early childhood theories and practices, Ensures an efficent, purposeful program responsive to participant needs, Screens, observes, and documents children with parents as required, Ensures an appropriate written Transition Plan for all children six months before their third birthday; provide parents with training and information. Establish communication to facilitate and coordinate the transition.


Program development, Recordkeeping, Parent involvement and Community Relations are essential responsibilities of this role as well.


Education and Experience
  • Must have a minimum of a home-based child development associate (CDA) or comparable credential or equivalent coursework as part of an associate's or bachelor's degree.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide with simple fractions.
  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area).
  • Must have reliable transportation and, if/when using own vehicle, must have minimum automobile coverage required by state of employment.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
  • May be required to lift to 40 pounds.
  • Will be required to perform physical activities to engage with toddlers/Infant including bending, squatting, getting down and up of the floor.
  • Travel by car, bus, airplane, or train may also be required to attend conferences, meetings, and other duties carried out at distant locations in and out of state, and in some cases, overnight travel may be required.
  • Some exposure to communicable diseases.
  • The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud.
  • Work is typically performed in a classroom, kitchen, or bus setting, and some office work will be required.
  • Evenings and weekend work may occasionally be required for home visits, parent-teacher conferences, Parent Committee meetings, community, and social events.
