Job Details:

The Behavioral Health Staff Development Supervisor is seen as a gatekeeper for the Behavioral Health service line that organizes, streamlines, and supports the recruitment, placement, onboarding, and development of social work and counseling interns as well as oversees the therapy scholarship program. The position is part of the behavioral health staff development team and coordinates with team members to provide behavioral health training across the service line and hospital.

Education: Master's degree in social work or counseling is required.

Experience: 5 years of experience in Social Work or Counseling is preferred.

Certification/Licensure: LPCC-S or LISW-S

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Continuing Education Provision/ Record Keeping

* Aides in the coordination of continuing education program for Behavioral Health staff.


* Maintains database system for tracking all approved continued education programs and materials for future requests.


* Tracks and submits required documentation for counselor/social work licensure board continuing education certification.


* Completes the application for programs/offerings and virtual learning requirements and approval from the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board.


* Develops, implements, and evaluates educational opportunities for the counselor and social work disciplines.


* Assists in program planning processes and consultation with other education coordinators (physician, nursing) and outside community agencies/programs.


* Develops educational materials and courses that support the organization's strategic goals and Behavioral Health strategies.


* Provides support to keeping up to date on professional/clinical issues and best practices.


* Completes continued education as required to maintain licensure in the state of Ohio.



Educational Student placements/opportunities

* Coordination for student opportunities, site placement with field/school instructors as necessary and appropriate supervision.


* Coordination of interviews for potential interns.


* Coordinates with hospital leadership to identify social work and counseling internship opportunities.


* Acts as a liaison with schools and universities to ensure appropriate placement and expectations of education is met.


* Ensures appropriate education and orientation to students is organized, scheduled, and attended.


* Ensures school/university contractual agreements for internships or site placements are up to date and approved.


* Organizes and conducts interviews for the therapy scholarship program and ensures that intern contracts are signed and up to date.



Collaboration/ Coordination

* Provides excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.


* Directly supports the leadership of the Behavioral Health Division/Services and all associated programming within the departments.


* Supports relationships with providers, key leaders, and community partners.


* Demonstrates exceptional written and oral communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.


* Screens/routes telephone calls as appropriate from community partners, Schools/Universities, and students.


* Follows the Behavioral standards as expected in Dayton Children's Values.



Promotion of skills/competencies for disciplines

* Responsible for the coordination of requested clinical supervision or licensure advancement opportunities for staff.


* Flexibility and adaptability to multiple tasks and takes initiative to complete tasks and solve problems independently.


* Provides training, coaching, and mentoring to dependent licensed workers/ staff as necessary.


* Ensures promotion of value to the professional identity of counselors and social workers at Dayton Children's Hospital.

* Maintains high performance by adhering to policies and procedures of the department and hospital.


* Monitors opportunity for advancement or growth for counselors and social workers at Dayton Children's Hospital.


* Responsible for coordination with hospital leadership to recognize social workers and counselors, including activities regarding mental health month and similar events.

* Exhibits significant knowledge of MS Outlook, and MS Office Suite software systems


* Responds to phone calls, requests for information, or other assistance in a timely fashion from community, staff, and partners.


* Ability to work autonomously under pressure and meet deadlines as requested.


* Acts as a resource for interpretation of State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist board rules and laws.


* Creates and maintains reports as requested.


* Remains up to date on Joint Commission and CMS regulations for hospital accreditation, incorporating these into the appropriate educational opportunities as required.


* Provides feedback and insight to the Behavioral Health Service Line and hospital leaders when interacting with internal or external customers as part of continued quality improvement of service for the social work, counseling professional practice.
