OIEA Tribal Eldercare Needs Assessment VISTA

The New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department-Office of Indian Elder Affairs created the VISTA Project: Identifying Tribal Eldercare Needs for Supplemental Services project to address the challenges posed by the rapidly aging population among the 23 Tribes, Pueblos, and Nations (TPNs) of New Mexico. The projects objectives include identifying the needs and gaps related to limited economic opportunities, lack of job prospects, and barriers such as geographical remoteness, transportation issues, educational disparities, inadequate infrastructure, cultural and linguistic obstacles, health disparities, limited awareness, capacity building and insufficient data collection. As part of the project's phases, the VISTA member will conduct a comprehensive needs assessment with tribal eldercare providers to identify specific challenges and barriers related to service access, supplemental services, and resources necessary for improving service delivery and benefits. Member Duties : This position offers a key opportunity to collaborate and build capacity with NM ALTSD-OIEA on behalf of New Mexico's Tribes, Pueblos, and Nation's eldercare providers by gathering and analyzing data related to resource accessibility, support, and opportunities essential for community well-being and economic empowerment. Methodologies will include surveys, interviews, forms, and on-site meetings to capture comprehensive insights. The role focuses on capacity building within tribal communities and provides travel opportunities that foster relationship-building. Ultimately, this position aims to deliver operational strategies to enhance accessible, integrated strategies for older adults, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers.
