OIEA Tribal Eldercare Needs Assessment VISTA

The New Mexico Aging and Long-Term Services Department-Office of Indian Elder Affairs is seeking a highly motivated VISTA member to contribute to the Identifying Tribal Eldercare Needs for Supplemental Services project. This project aims to address the challenges posed by the rapidly aging population among the 23 Tribes, Pueblos, and Nations (TPNs) of New Mexico.

Job Summary:

This position offers a key opportunity to collaborate with NM ALTSD-OIEA on behalf of New Mexico's Tribes, Pueblos, and Nation's eldercare providers by gathering and analyzing data related to resource accessibility, support, and opportunities essential for community well-being and economic empowerment.

About the Project:

The project's objectives include identifying the needs and gaps related to limited economic opportunities, lack of job prospects, and barriers such as geographical remoteness, transportation issues, educational disparities, inadequate infrastructure, cultural and linguistic obstacles, health disparities, limited awareness, capacity building, and insufficient data collection.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive needs assessments with tribal eldercare providers to identify specific challenges and barriers related to service access, supplemental services, and resources necessary for improving service delivery and benefits.
  • Gather and analyze data using surveys, interviews, forms, and on-site meetings to capture comprehensive insights.
  • Focus on capacity building within tribal communities and provide travel opportunities that foster relationship-building.
