REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reports to the Vice President for Finance and Operations
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall efficient operation and management of the Corporation to accomplish its mission and optimize all avenues for potential growth. Guided by a strategic focus, the Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Corporation. Importantly, the Executive Director is charged with aggressively pursuing and creating opportunities for economic development in business services, housing, community programs and other relevant areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
Board Management/Leadership
* Collaborate with the Board Chair to develop and implement CDC's overall Board development and recruitment process
* Lead quarterly board meetings, monthly finance committee meetings and monthly executive committee meetings
* Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop a vision and strategic plan to guide the organization
* In tandem with the Board President, serve as a spokesperson for the organization to enhance CDC's profile especially in community and industry related activities
Financial Management
* Development of an annual budget and achievement of budgetary goals
* Develop and maintain sound financial practices
* Work with the College's Business Office regarding all annual audit requirements are properly documented to include all information related to loans, property, cash operations, insurance, etc.
* Ensure that the Board is always informed of any transactions related to the on-going financial stability of the organization
Development/Fundraising, Planning & Management
* Oversee the planning and implementation of the CDC's annual development strategy, fundraising events, donor cultivation program, board giving, and fundraising opportunities
* Identify revenue and grant opportunities for the organization and work with appropriate staff and external partners to pursue those opportunities
* Provide continuous support, oversight, management, and appropriate evaluation of programmatic initiatives which support the strategic vision of the CDC
Community Relations/Communications/Marketing
* Continue to nurture existing stakeholders and seek opportunities to create new working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, legislators, and other key organizations to further achieve CDC goals
* Collaborate with staff in conjunction with the Board to create a marketing/communications plan to include regular messaging, visits to key stakeholders, etc.
Real Estate Development
* Execute CDC's initiatives regarding renovation and conservatorship of blighted properties, affordable housing, and public space creation and improvement
* Identify and execute upon transformational real estate development opportunities, including acquisition, financing, construction, management, and selective disposition of impactful real estate assets
QUALIFICATIONS & KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
The ideal candidate will be an experienced executive leader with a solid history of successfully leading and developing teams, working with an active Board, diversifying revenue streams, success in fundraising, as well as cultivating relationships with aa wide spectrum of stakeholders, donors, and partners. The Executive Director will have a strong external presence and the ability to successfully engage with the media and policymakers to advance the goals of the CDC. The individual will bring a deep appreciation and understanding of community and economic development and will have knowledge of the current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the CDC.
Candidate should possess strong management, communication, and supervisory skills.
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
* Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in business or a related field preferred
* Experience/knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities related to the mission/vision of CDC
* Knowledge of human resources management, standard development/fundraising practices, and program evaluation and management for tax exempt organizations
* 3-5 years of management experience in a non-profit, or similar organization
* Demonstrated commitment to equity, and specific knowledge of the Richland County and the City of Columbia
* Must possess a valid S.C. driver's license and have reliable transportation
