Primary Counselor

Play a vital role in the day-to-day operation of the residential facility, provides supervision, and attends to the safety needs of the clients, while maintaining a therapeutic environment. Ensures the treatment plan is a living document in the daily life of the client.
- Participates in the client's daily planning routine.
- Supervisors, coaches, and mentors the client during meals, dressing and personal hygiene, monitors cleaning of room, chores, and life tactical skills.
- Provides structure, discipline, and security in meeting the needs of the youths.
- Serves as a role model and source of feedback to the clients.
- Always supervises and monitors the clients.
- Intervenes in crisis situations using the approved Mandt system.
- Assigned to facilitate therapeutic classes and group counseling.
- Documents significant client behaviors and significant contact with client
- Works with dietary department to ensure snacks and meals are served at scheduled times.
- Implements approved behavior management system.
- Administers prescribed medication, documents, and observes its effects. Must have appropriate training and certification if required to administer medications.
- Communicates with all staff and shares critical information concerning clients.
- Reports to work at scheduled times and remains on duty until replacement arrives.
- Attends chapel, is involved in the spiritual life of the client at St. Francis and serves as an adult role model.
- Attends weekly treatment team meetings and participates in case reviews.
- Capable of being on call for emergency transportation.
- Reports unusual incidents through appropriate Risk Management, clinical and safety channels.
- Ensures clients' rights are protected.
- Is knowledgeable of and follows all safety procedures.
- Implements Saint Francis Ministries policies and follows directives as required. Follows and adheres to all pertinent Saint Francis Ministries Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), rules, personnel policies and procedures; related accreditation and licensure standards; and federal, state and local rules, statutes, regulations, and all contractual terms.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Services.
- First Aid/CPR.
- Mandt.
- Prefer 2 years' experience in children and family services field.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Must pass a physical examination, including drug screen and TB Skin Test.
- Must pass an MVR, KBI and Child Abuse and Neglect Central Registry Clearance check.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- Lifting requirements of 50 lbs.
