Dental Program Expansion VISTA

As a non-profit in the field of healthcare, it is TWCCH mission to improve the health and welfare of our communities by providing opportunities for individuals and communities to receive care regardless of socioeconomic status. VISTAs will contribute to several projects that will connect economically disadvantaged individuals in Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wayne Counties to integrated health care. VISTAs will possess a strong work ethic and be able to develop ideas in a collaborative setting. Two of the most important attributes VISTAs should display are empathy and compassion to the people we serve. Major functions will include outreach, research, forming relationships with internal and external stakeholders and improving access to Dental and oral health services; cultivating a network of volunteers; and expanding the service lines offered to members of the community. VISTAs will be given an opportunity to work and expand Dental services within our Dental Service Line. Recent graduates with an interest in creating opportunities for change and growth for individual's oral health will expand on the current Dental service line; develop education for young children and adolescents in the surrounding school districts, individuals experiencing OUD/SUD, and perform data analysis on outcome measures. Access to health care impacts: overall physical, social, and mental health status; prevention of oral disease; detection and treatment of oral health conditions. Benefits & Conditions of Service: VISTAs commit to one year of service with TWC and will receive a living allowance which matches the AmeriCorps standard and mileage reimbursement provided by TWC pending trip length. Member Duties : Goal of the Project: To create an oral health education outreach program for individuals who are intellectually and economically disadvantaged through the establishment of partnerships with school districts, grant writing, and marketing to local community-based organizations to address barriers and provide education on the importance of oral health. *Establish relationships with school districts in the surrounding counties to set up oral health educational events for oral health promotion in children and adults. *Research grant opportunities to expand dental clinic in underserved areas. *Educate and promote oral health in shelters along with OUD/SUD inpatient and outpatient clinics in surrounding communities.
