Response to Intervention (RTI) Specialist

Department: General Education

Reports to: Director of Insturction

Summary: Under the direction of the AMA ESD, RTI Specialist will provide Tier 2 interventions to identified students in local schools.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Tier 2 Services:
    • Provide research-based literacy interventions to targeted K-3 students.
    • Provide Tier 2 services by pushing into the classroom to support Tier 1 practices.
    • Lead a literacy station or center in the classroom or remote setting during certain circumstances, working with targeted and non-targeted students.
    • Assist targeted students during reading instruction in the general education classroom.
  • Maintain a consistent caseload of students for an intervention cycle.
  • Follow the research base of the designated programs regarding group size.
  • Teach the research-based intervention with fidelity.
  • Administer initial and extensive reading assessments.
  • Administer pre- and post-test at the start and end of cycle.
  • Progress monitor students throughout the cycle with the designated assessments when applicable.
  • Service only K-3 non-special education students.
  • Analyze data on caseload of students at the end of every cycle. Determine students' response to intervention - should the student continue the intervention, change interventions, or be released?
  • Enter student data into the data system.
  • Communicate with Title and classroom teachers daily.
  • Attend professional development as directed by AMA ESD.
  • Remain free of any alcohol or non prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace through their employment in the district.
  • Presence on the job is an employee's fundamental obligation. Regular, reliable, and punctual attendance is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the RTI Specialist must be able to do the following:
  • Lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and crouch throughout the day
  • Ability to talk and hear

Qualifications:
  • Associate's Degree or pass a basic skills test.
  • Must have demonstrated good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team.
  • Valid MI State Driver's License
  • Ability to pass a criminal history check
  • Basic computer skills
