Per County Rules, this position is eligible for appointment at Step 1, $73,964.80. County employees are subject to the County Promotion Rule for Step Placement in Accordance with Comp Ord 1.3.5.

The Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) has an immediate need to fill a vacancy for Supervising Health Information Specialist. The incumbent will organize, coordinate, train, and be able to supervise public health information and support services staff across a department providing health, safely and/or wellness information services.

The current opening is in the Public Health Services Department, Maternal, Child, and Family Health Services (MCFHS) Branch located at 5469 Kearny Villa Rd, San Diego, with some assignments performed virtually (hybrid schedule). The Supervising Health Information Specialist (SHIS) will play a key role in branch wide health information activities to support multiple MCFHS programs. The SHIS will provide oversight and coordination of various communication methodologies and multimedia platforms. This position will be responsible for supervising and implementing the development of outreach campaigns, health education materials, newsletters, articles, press releases, announcements, and other forms of communication. The incumbent must maintain consistency and alignment with key public health and Countywide messages and branding, including the County's Live Well San Diego vision here.

While the current opening is in the department of Public Health Services, the eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future openings in other divisions.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in journalism, English, public health or related discipline, AND, four (4) years of full-time experience in a public/community health program developing and writing printed materials and press releases for use in print and electronic media.

Note: A master's degree from an accredited U.S. college or university, or a certified foreign studies equivalency in journalism, English, public health or other discipline stressing health or writing skill can substitute for up to one year of the required experience.

Interviews and Hiring Process

The timeline for this recruitment is outlined below.

* Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.


* Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of background or other mutually agreed upon date.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

Evaluation

Any candidate selected for an interview will be asked to provide a portfolio of their work to showcase their skills and abilities. The portfolio should include reports, brochures, and any other campaign or promotional materials.
